Canyon County Symphony

Nampa, United States

The Canyon County Symphony (CCS) is a vibrant community-based organization that believes in the transformative power of music. Founded on the principles of volunteerism and inclusive participation, CCS provides a platform for musicians of all experience levels to engage in in-depth music education and training within an atmosphere of excellence and dedication. The organization encompasses various ensembles, including a symphony, a flute orchestra, a youth symphony, and children's choruses, each contributing to the rich tapestry of musical offerings in Canyon County. At the helm of the CCS Symphony is Dr. Nick Harker, a co-founder of the organization and a conductor with a wealth of experience in professional, community, and educational ensemble conducting. Dr. Harker's extensive background includes conducting orchestral, opera, ballet, recording, and film studio performances. His educational journey took him through a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Utah and a Masters in Music from Brigham Young University. As a passionate educator, he currently teaches at the Idaho Arts Charter School and has served as a clinician and guest conductor across several states. The CCS Flute Orchestra is directed by Hannah Leonora Bailey, a flutist with nineteen years of experience. Her musical education includes studying under prominent figures such as Keith Underwood and Amy Porter and earning a Bachelor of Music in Performance and an Artist Certificate from Azusa Pacific University, followed by a Masters of Music in Performance from Boise State University. Bailey has performed with the Orange County Symphony and the Yellow River Symphony in China, among others, and is dedicated to teaching and sharing music history through her social media series on the history of the flute. Danika StarrHarrt, the CCS Youth Symphony Director, brings a multi-instrumental talent to the organization. Her musical journey began with piano lessons at the age of six and expanded to include a wide array of instruments, which she now plays fluently. Danika has taught music for nearly two decades and has directed community and youth symphonies for about half of that time. Her compositions and arrangements have received numerous awards, and she continues to inspire through her performing group, Starrharrt Symphonic. The Canyon County Children’s Concert Chorus is directed by Betsy Olson, who has over 50 years of experience in music education. Olson's accolades include numerous educator awards, and she has significantly contributed to the field of music education, including establishing a Visual and Performing Arts Elementary School that received national recognition. Kate Haderlie leads the Canyon County Children’s Prelude Chorus, bringing her expertise in music, theater, and creative writing from Brigham Young University-Idaho. Haderlie's passion for the performing arts and her work with children make her a valuable asset to the organization. The CCS is governed by a board of directors, including President Bruce Mills, Vice President Kyle Lambert, Executive Director Don Anderson, and other dedicated members who oversee various aspects of the organization's operations. The Canyon County Symphony is committed to enriching the cultural landscape of the region by offering a diverse range of musical experiences to the community. Through performances, educational programs, and community engagement, CCS continues to foster a love for music and provide transformative experiences for musicians and audiences alike.
