In the coming months, the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra and the Fargo Moorhead Opera Company are set to enthrall audiences with a diverse lineup of performances. From the glitz of 'A Night at the Oscars' to the dynamic interplay of Vivaldi and Piazzolla's seasons, and culminating in the dramatic opera 'Il Tabarro,' these events promise to deliver unforgettable cultural experiences. Not only do these performances highlight the talents of esteemed conductors and soloists, but they also weave a rich tapestry of musical storytelling that captures the essence of human emotion and artistry.

Step into the historic Fargo Theatre and join the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra as we present the 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera, brought to life with a powerful live orchestral performance conducted by Jane Linde Capistran.

This program features the world premiere of Noir Concerto No. 1, a saxophone concerto by Fargo-born composer Adam Hochstatter, featuring Russ Peterson, saxophone.

Peterson also brings his own voice to the stage with Between Two Cultures, a genre-blending composition reflecting his dual roots in classical and jazz traditions.

To round off the program, the orchestra performs Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World” inspired by Dvořák’s time in America and cultural diversity.

The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra proudly presents Symphony Rocks Bluestem, an electrifying fusion of symphonic music and rock, celebrating a decade of unforgettable performances. This year's concert features the dynamic collaboration between the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra and the high-energy band Post Traumatic Funk Syndrome. Under the baton of conductor Jane Linde Capistran, the evening promises a vibrant repertoire of hits from the past ten years of Symphony Rocks, enhanced by the powerful vocals of special guest Ronnie Allen and the masterful guitar work of Steve Stine.

Symphony Rocks Bluestem has a rich history of bringing diverse musical styles to life, from the soulful sounds of Motown to the iconic anthems of the British Invasion. Each year, the event has showcased unique themes and guest artists, creating a tapestry of musical experiences that resonate with audiences of all ages. Highlights from previous years include collaborations with local Irish pub band Poitin, the steel drum band Fuego Tropical, and jazz vocalist Bruce Henry, each adding their distinctive flair to the symphonic backdrop.

This year's performance continues the tradition of blending classical and contemporary music, offering a night of rhythmic grooves and melodic harmonies. The event is set against the picturesque backdrop of the Bluestem Amphitheater, providing an immersive experience where music and nature converge. This all-strings program features FMSO’s string section while concertmaster, Sonja Bosca-Harasim, takes center stage as the featured soloist in Vivaldi’s iconic Four Seasons and Astor Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, creating a dialogue between Baroque elegance and 20th-century tango.

To close the season in dramatic fashion, the FMSO joins forces with the Fargo-Moorhead Opera.

Puccini: Il Tabarro a Co-Production with FM Opera

From the genius behind La Bohème, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly comes Puccini’s gripping one-act masterpiece of passion and betrayal. Set aboard a barge on the dark waters of the Seine, Il Tabarro (The Cloak) simmers with jealousy, longing, and fatal secrets. With its brooding atmosphere and sweeping score, this rarely performed gem offers a raw, emotional punch.

Presented in special collaboration with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, this emotionally charged production showcases Puccini’s lush orchestration and dramatic power—and marks the completion of FM Opera’s journey through Il Trittico, following Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi nearly a decade ago.
