All of the organs will be open for use in a grand open console event, where you can travel down memory lane and have a great time. Dust off those trio sonatas, preludes and fugues, and chorale partitas, and maybe even some Distler and come on home to Oberlin. Organ enthusiasts and friends are invited as well.

Cendrillon is an opera—described as a "fairy tale"—in four acts by Jules Massenet to a French libretto by Henri Caïn based on Perrault's 1698 version of the Cinderella fairy tale.

This fully-staged production of Oberlin Opera Theater will be presented in four performances, November 7 through 9 at 8pm and November 10 at 2pm. Run Time: 145 minutes. Sung in French.

The Baroque Performance Institute Orchestra, now in its 52nd season, will present an enchanting orchestral performance at Oberlin's Finney Chapel. This year's program, titled "Music of Paris and Versailles, 1660-1760," promises a captivating journey through the rich musical heritage of the Baroque era. The concert will feature a selection of works by renowned composers such as Jean-Baptiste Lully, Marin Marais, Jean-Marie Leclair, and Jean-Philippe Rameau. Highlights include Lully's Suite from "Le Bourgeois gentilhomme," Marais' Suite from "Alcione," and Leclair's Concerto in A Minor, Op. 7, No. 5, with violin soloist Edwin Huizinga. The Silkroad Ensemble’s new program, Uplifted Voices, shines a light on previously under-recognized voices to change our perspectives on the history and migration of music. Named after a former Oberlin professor of piano, the Arthur Dann Competition uses the proceeds from a small endowment to fund one Oberlin student in his or her arrangements for performing off-campus. Up to six finalists perform half-hour programs in Finney Chapel for a panel of guest judges.

For more than 30 years, past winners have played in Russia, toured Taiwan, and performed at venues across the United States.

Named for Professor Peter Takács and the composer whose music has been a pivotal source of inspiration throughout his career, this annual competition presents standout student pianists in performances of Beethoven.

The Final Round on Sunday is free and open to the public. This round will showcase recital performances of up to six pianists who advance from the closed Friday preliminary round. Pianists will perform two major works by Beethoven.

The Oberlin Creative Music Lab specializes in contemporary, open-form, and guided improvisation while performing existing works written for creative music ensemble.

Creative Music refers to the approach of music making established and embodied by the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians. The course seeks to honor the AACM model through a laboratory environment that allows musical exploration and experimentation.

The Oberlin Contra Dance Club and Oberlin Conservatory of Music co-present a special Contra Dance in commemoration of Oberlin's upcoming performances of the opera Omar, by Rhiannon Giddens '00, in which folk musical traditions and folk dance are intertwined in the opera score.

Join us for a special concert performance of the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera composed by Rhiannon Giddens ’00 and Michael Abels, based on the true story of a 19th-century Islamic scholar from West Africa who was enslaved in South Carolina. Conducted by John Kennedy ’82, the performance spotlights Giddens and a cast of acclaimed Oberlin alumni, joined by the Oberlin Orchestra and choral ensembles.

Experience the mesmerizing artistry of Seckou Keita, a virtuoso Kora player hailed as one of the most influential musicians of his generation. Originally from Senegal and now based in the UK, Seckou Keita has earned the nickname "the Hendrix of the Kora" for his innovative tunings and exceptional virtuosity. His performances are celebrated for their emotional depth and technical brilliance, making him a standout figure in the world of contemporary African music. As part of the 2024-25 Artist Recital Series, Seckou Keita will bring his unique blend of traditional and modern sounds to Oberlin College and Conservatory, offering an unforgettable musical experience. His mastery of the Kora, a 21-stringed West African harp, showcases not only his profound connection to his cultural roots but also his ability to transcend genres and captivate audiences worldwide. Join us for an evening of extraordinary music that highlights the rich heritage and innovative spirit of one of today's most inspiring musicians.
