Saxophonist great, Azar Lawrence celebrates his new album New Sky with his 8-piece ensemble who sizzle to his original compositions. Lawrence at just 19 years old was chosen by Elvin Jones for a 3 plus year stint and then by McCoy Tyner for 5 years to fill the shoes of John Coltrane. Azar recorded and played with Miles Davis on his Dark Magus album, wrote and recorded with Earth, Wind & Fire and Marvin Gaye to name a few. In the early 2000’s, Azar surged back onto the jazz scene and continues to roar, electrifying audiences with outstanding original compositions inspired by his intense spiritual feelings, as well as songs from the Coltrane songbook.

Internationally acclaimed jazz violinist Jenny Scheinman presents music she wrote and honed while in the wilderness of Northern California during the shutdown. This drum-less ensemble revels in full acoustic resonance and draws on Scheinman’s early string influences; John McLaughlin’s Shakti, Django Reinhardt and Wild West cinema. She is also sure to include a handful of her older cherished compositions in celebration of 25 years of band leading. Scheinman has released ten albums of original music, collected a handful of Grammys, and has worked closely with a wide range of jazz and Americana artists including Jason Moran, Bill Frisell, Madeleine Peyroux, Nels Cline, Ron Miles, Allison Miller, Lucinda Williams and Lou Reed.
Scheinman’s bi-coastal all-star crew includes Dee Dee Bridgewater’s pianist Carmen Staaf, Grammy-winning bassist and producer Todd Sickafoose who co-created the hit musical Hadestown and alto saxophonist Beth Schenck and guitarist Matt Wrobel whose 20-year duo collaboration pushes the band's extrasensory perception to the outer limits.

Legendary bassist Buster Williams leads his Something More quartet. The Guardian calls Williams one of the great acoustic bassists, and JazzTimes states Williams resume ranks with that of any bassist in the modern era. It’s a resume that includes working with Gene Ammons and Sonny Stitt when he was 17; backing singing legends Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughn and Nancy Wilson in the 60s; anchoring Herbie Hancock s Mwandishi sextet into the 70s; and co-founding the Timeless All-Stars and Sphere after that. As important as he is as a bassist with his virtuosic technique and an unmistakable sound, he is equally known for his compositions and bands, which The New Yorker hails as modern, mainstream at its best.

Trombonist and five-time Grammy-nominee, Wayne Wallace is one of the more respected exponents of African American-Latin music in the world today. He is known for the use of traditional forms and styles in combination with contemporary music and has earned recognition with his recent placement in the Downbeat Critics Polls under the trombone and producer categories. Wallace has performed, recorded and studied with acknowledged masters of the Afro-Latin and jazz idioms such as Aretha Franklin, Bobby Hutcherson, Earth Wind and Fire, Pete Escovedo and Santana, to name a few.

Vocalist Tierney Sutton returns this summer with phenomenal Tamir Hendelman on piano and Serge Merlaud on guitar playing songs from Sutton’s Grammy-nominated Paris Sessions album. Sutton, known for her impeccable voice and imaginative treatments of The Great American Songbook, is heralded for her abilities as both a jazz storyteller and her ability to use her voice as an instrument. She is a 9-time Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist and has received a “Best Jazz Vocal Album” Grammy nod for every project she has released in the last decade. “A serious jazz artist who takes the whole enterprise to another level.”- The New York Times.

And with his latest marvelous album Sounds From The Ancestors, the Grammy award-winning Garrett shows no signs of resting on his laurels. The Bach is once again proud to present this living legend.

Chris and Dan Brubeck have been making music together practically all their lives. Drummer Dan and bassist, trombonist, and composer Chris cut their first record together in 1966— more than a half century ago. Rooted in straight-ahead jazz, they’ve played a variety of styles in a number of different groups, as well as with their father, jazz giant Dave Brubeck, and with their own Brubeck Brothers Quartet. The group’s creativity, technique and improvisation can be heard in their uncompromising music, which reflects their dedication to melody, rhythm, culture and the spontaneous spirit of jazz.

A world-class soloist, accomplished composer, and formidable bandleader, saxophonist Chris Potter has emerged as a leading light of his generation. DownBeat called him, “One of the most studied (and copied) saxophonists on the planet,” while JazzTimes identified him as, “a figure of international renown.” DownBeat also voted him second only to tenor sax great Sonny Rollins in the magazine’s 2008 Readers Poll. The Grammy–nominated Potter is considered one of the finest saxophonists in the world and a potent improvisor. He has performed or recorded with Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, Joanne Brackeen, John Scofield, Jim Hall, Paul Motian and many others.
