Owensboro Symphony

Owensboro, KY, United States

The Owensboro Symphony is a distinguished orchestra with a rich history of contributing to the cultural and economic vibrancy of Owensboro and its surrounding regions. Established in 1966 in Owensboro, a city with a population of less than 45,000 at the time, the Symphony has grown in stature and artistic quality, achieving a level of excellence and versatility that is often associated with larger metropolitan areas. The mission of the Owensboro Symphony is to deliver meaningful and imaginative performances, as well as educational and community engagement programs that enhance lives and foster memorable experiences. The organization is dedicated to producing high-quality music events that nourish the spirit of the community, support the cultural economy, and nurture the next generation, thereby fostering a creative workforce. Each season, the Owensboro Symphony presents a Subscription Series at the RiverPark Center in Owensboro, along with free summer outdoor concerts and Chamber Orchestra performances in local churches. Additionally, the Symphony organizes a variety of unique fundraising events throughout the season. The Symphony's Education and Community Engagement programs have a significant impact, reaching thousands of individuals annually. These initiatives are designed to ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial situation or background, has the opportunity to develop their skills and engage with music in a meaningful way. The Owensboro Symphony's educational efforts include dynamic, intimate programs that connect with students on a personal level. The Symphony's Guest on the Go program brings guest artists into local schools to conduct master classes, thereby enhancing the educational experience of the students. Moreover, the Owensboro Symphony sponsors the Owensboro Symphony Youth and String Orchestras, which include students from across the tri-state area and perform challenging repertoires in three concerts each year. The Owensboro Symphony Academy extends the organization's educational reach by offering private lessons in piano, violin, cello, string bass, and voice from qualified music instructors. This initiative allows local students to receive personalized instruction and develop their musical talents. Furthermore, the Symphony's Music on Call program is an innovative community outreach initiative that harnesses the healing power of music. Through live, interactive performances, Symphony musicians collaborate with local hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing and group homes, boys and girls clubs, recreational centers, senior centers, libraries, and special-needs programs, including those serving the autism community. The primary goal of this program is to improve the quality of life for those in need through the transformative power of music. Overall, the Owensboro Symphony continues to play a pivotal role in the cultural life of the community, offering a variety of programs and performances that resonate with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
