Hawaii Ballet Theatre

Hawaii Ballet Theatre (HBT) is a non-profit organization that has been a cornerstone of the dance community in Hawaiʻi since its founding in 1980. With a mission to produce and present professional dance performances for audiences of diverse ages and backgrounds, HBT has established itself as a cultural institution dedicated to inspiring, educating, and nurturing young artists to reach their full potential. This production is a collaborative effort that brings together local professional dancers, guest artists from the mainland and internationally, and over a hundred students from various dance studios across the island. HBT's performances have been praised by the Honolulu Advertiser for their grandeur and ability to leave audiences "cleansed and ennobled." The company's colorful history includes performances not only across Oʻahu but also on tours to neighboring islands and the continental United States. HBT has partnered with prestigious organizations such as the Honolulu Symphony, the Royal Hawaiian Band, and the Spring Wind Quintet, showcasing its versatility by performing in a wide range of venues, from concert halls and gymnasiums to public parks, hotels, and even the Honolulu Zoo and Waikiki Shell. In 2022, HBT expanded its reach with the establishment of HBT Studios, a dedicated space for aspiring young artists to develop their skills in various dance disciplines, including ballet, jazz, musical theatre, tap, and hip-hop. The studio aims to foster confidence, discipline, respect, and a love for the arts among its students. HBT Studios offers a comprehensive curriculum with classes for all ages and skill levels, open and master classes, workshops, and two major dance productions each year. Hawaii Ballet Theatre is known for its full-length ballets such as "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Cinderella," and "Alice in Wonderland," as well as one-act ballets like "A Toyshop Fantasy" and "The Ice King." The company has also produced a variety of shorter works, including "Legend of Papa & Wakea" and "Fly Me to the Moon." HBT's dedication to both classical and contemporary dance is evident in its extensive and varied repertory.
