Akron’s Big Pop is a five-piece pop-rock band formed in 2021. Longtime Akron musicians Jeri Sapronetti and Corey Jenkins saw their successful bands fizzle out during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sapronetti’s psych-rock group Time Cat was touring nationally and had the chance to open for Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders in Akron in 2016. When Time Cat and Jenkins’ group Fancy Legs disbanded, Sapronetti reached out to Jenkins, whom she’s known since 2009, about collaborating on new music. Together, they brought in additional local artists to form the supergroup, Big Pop.

David Hayes is a conductor with a broad range of repertory, spanning symphonic, oratorio/choral, and operatic genres. He is the Music Director of NYCHORAL (New York Choral Society) and holds several prestigious positions, including Director of Orchestral and Conducting Studies at the Mannes School of Music, Music Director of the Mannes Orchestra, and Staff Conductor of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra. Hayes is a frequent guest conductor and has recently conducted masterclasses at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and guest conducted in Italy and Spain.

Join the Canton Symphony Orchestra for an unforgettable evening as we embark on "A Voyage on the High Seas," the grand finale of our MasterWorks series. Conducted by CSO Music Director Matthew Jenkins Jaroszewicz, this concert features Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Symphony No. 1, "A Sea Symphony," with text from Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass." This monumental piece captures the essence of the ocean with its whistling winds and racing waves, while also exploring the sea as a metaphor for the soul's journey through time and space.

The Canton Symphony Chorus, founded in 1983 and composed of volunteer singers from Northeast Ohio, will be joined by Grammy award-winning bass-baritone Dashon Burton and soprano Bonnie Frauenthal. This performance marks the first time "A Sea Symphony" will be performed in Canton.
