The Music in the Mountains Youth Orchestra (MIMYO) begins its fall session rehearsals
August 21.  The orchestra, which usually has between 30 and 40 players, is open to
students in grades 4 through high school and offers two levels of play – beginning/new to
group performance and experienced – under the direction of a professional conductor. This
year MIMYO will be rehearsing in the Band Room at the Nevada County Campus of Sierr

What: A summer musical experience for musicians age eleven to adult who wish to improve their playing skills in order to feel comfortable participating in a group music experience. Hone or rediscover your skills in this relaxed, summer camp. Experience making music in a large group rehearsal experience, participate in small ensemble settings, receive some personal coaching, and enjoy fun activities.

SummerFest Orchestra Camp 2023

The discussion will focus on George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Florence Price’s Symphony No. 1. Because the MIM orchestra will be performing a concert with these pieces on June 29, 2023 at the Center for the Arts. MIM’s July 3 concert at Western Gateway Park is also a celebration of American music, and in 2023, will include the music of  Woody Guthrie, John Philip Souza, Duke Ellington, John Williams, and more. Ryan will select interesting facts about many of these American composers and their music to share.
