NEA Jazz Masters and recipient of the Ordre de Chevalier des Arts et Lettres, Charles Lloyd, continues to elevate the art form with each performance and recording.  Born in Memphis, Tennessee March 15, 1938. From an early age, Lloyd was immersed in that city’s rich musical life and was exposed to jazz. He began playing the saxophone at the age of 9. Pianist Phineas Newborn became his mentor, and took him to Irvin Reason for lessons.  His closest friend in high school was trumpeter, Booker Little. Lloyd worked in Phineas Sr’s band, and became a sideman in the Blues bands of B.B. King, Howlin’ Wolf,  Johnnie Ace, Bobbie “Blue” Bland, and others. Read More

Their current version, the Buena Vista Orchestra, is coming to Tucson to perform at the Fox Theatre in October. The incomparable Cuban-born star Ninón Sevilla (Aventurera, Victims of Sin) shines in the boldly crafted and tumultuous musical melodrama Take Me in Your Arms as Rita, a young woman from a small coastal village in Veracruz and the daughter of a poor fisherman. The historic tradition of mariachi music has its roots of origin in cities such as Guadalajara and Mexico City. As the ever-evolving genre’s influence spread, it reached Chicago and birthed the Mariachi Herencia de México. The energetic, virtuosic Latin GRAMMY-nominated group has issued chart-topping albums and performed across the North American continent. Nuestra Herencia, their 2017 debut album, topped the Latin streaming charts. 2018’s Herencia de la Tierra Mía was produced by celebrated industry veteran Javier Limón and charted atop all major streaming services. 2019’s Esencia topped industry charts, while a second volume, issued in 2020 performed similarly. In 2022, Herederos appeared as the group were performing a wildly successful North American tour.

In May of 1985 Dire Straits released what would become one of the best-selling albums of all time; delivering a stream of classic songs and propelling the band into global superstar status. Classic Albums Live will recreate the album note for note, cut for cut live on stage in it’s entirety. Brothers in Arms has been described musically as a pop rock album. The music video for “Money for Nothing” received heavy rotation on MTV.
