Early studies with David Chitambar back in New York led to studies later in life with the legendary Ed Thigpen and John Von Ohlen. Having performed all around the Midwest, he has also had opportunity to play with jazz artists such as Melvin Rhyne, Joey DeFrancesco, Bill Heid, Pat Bianchi, Dave Stryker, John Clayton, Benny Green, Joe Beck, Ali Ryerson, and legendary tenor saxophonists George Coleman and Von Freeman.  His attitude toward the music and the role of the drum chair is to “lay down the groove, swing hard, stay out of the way and make the rest of the band sound better”.

April, 2023, marks the 30 year anniversary of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s remarkable arrival onto the music scene. Since its formation in the early nineties in Ventura, California, the band has toured virtually nonstop, performing on average over 150 shows a year, and has produced a sizable catalog of recorded music, with sales of over 2 million albums to date. Early on, during their legendary residency at the Derby nightclub in Los Angeles, they reminded the world, in the midst of the grunge era no less, that it was still cool to swing. The band, co-founded by singer Scotty Morris and drummer Kurt Sodergren, was at the forefront of the swing revival of that time, blending a vibrant fusion of the classic American sounds of jazz, swing, and dixieland, with the energy and spirit of contemporary culture.

There are no card tricks and no rabbits popping out of hats, but when Chris Jason (Frank Sinatra), Drew Anthony (Dean Martin), and Kyle Diamond (Sammy Davis Jr.) hit the stage, it’s there—the same magic that filled the room when these three icons performed at the Sands during the ’60s and ’70s. Heavy hitting rock legends, Night Ranger recently released a live album titled, 40 Years and a Night with Contemporary Youth Orchestra and it is available on CD/DVD, Vinyl, Blu-ray, and digitally across all streaming platforms. Filmed live at the Key Bank State Theatre in Cleveland, this special event finds band members Jack Blades, Kelly Keagy, Brad Gillis, Eric Levy, and Keri Kelli taking the stage for a one-of-a-kind set joined by Cleveland’s acclaimed Contemporary Youth Orchestra—an impressive outfit that boasts more than 80 talented student musicians between the ages of 12 and 18, who represent more than 40 schools in Ohio and who have previously performed alongside fellow rock legends such as Jefferson Starship, STYX, Pat Benatar, Kenny Loggins, and more.

Unaware that he is actually human, Buddyʼs enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santaʼs permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Mahler 2, Resurrection — Feb. 2 at Sauder Concert Hall at the Goshen College Music Center— features a moving collaboration with local choral ensemble Camerata Singers and the Goshen College Choirs. This annual concert at Sauder Concert Hall, a cherished community tradition, presents a repertoire including Mahler, Symphony No. 2 ‘Resurrection’ in C minor. The Camerata Singers, originally founded in 1975 in Elkhart, performed at the 2008 ACDA regional convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and—in 2014—performed Thomas Tallis’s 40-voice Spem in Alium to celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary.

Passion and Poetry, March 30 at The Lerner Theatre, presents a captivating side-by-side concert with the Goshen High School Symphony Orchestra. The performance brings together established and budding musicians from all throughout Elkhart County, and guides the audience through a repertoire including Suppe, Poet & Peasant Overture; Hanson, Symphony No. 2, Op. 30 ‘Romantic’; and collaborative work(s) with the Goshen High School Symphony.

rebelSYMPHnoire, May 18 at The Lerner Theatre, features guest performer rebel noire and the accomplices—a local Eclectic Rock/Spoken Word ensemble that creates original songs exploring themes of power, resistance, and the complex textures of human love. The repertoire for this exciting season finale includes Ethel Smyth, Boatswain’s Mate Overture; Choi, Arirang Fantasy; Theofanidis, Rainbow Body; and works by rebel noir and the accomplices.
