Step into a world of gossip and intrigue in The Old Maid and the Thief by Gian Carlo Menotti, the visionary founder of Spoleto Festival USA. Produced by Spoleto, this comedic one-act — composed in 1939 as a radio opera and never before performed at the Festival — is reimagined as a live radio broadcast—complete with onstage Foley sound effects, object manipulation, and the thrill of storytelling in real time. Set in the golden age of radio, the singers become both performers and sound artists, crafting the opera’s world before our eyes and ears. Campy, inventive, and delightfully mischievous, this brand-new staging celebrates Menotti’s wit and theatrical flair in a vibrant homecoming to the Spoleto stage.

Experience the timeless charm of Rossini's comedic masterpiece, "The Barber of Seville," presented by the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. This beloved opera, known for its enthralling melodies and captivating storyline, is set to grace the stage with performances scheduled for November 15, 16, and 17, 2024. The opera unfolds in a series of hilarious twists and turns, featuring the clever Figaro, the romantic Count Almaviva, and the beautiful Rosina, who outwit Rosina's guardian, Dr. Bartolo, in a quest for love.

This production boasts a talented cast including Chrystal E. Williams as Rosina, Matthew Swensen as Count Almaviva, Johnathan McCullough as Figaro, and Ashraf Sewailam as Doctor Bartolo. Under the baton of conductor James Lowe and the direction of Morris Panych, with lighting designed by Kimberly Purtell, audiences are promised an unforgettable evening of opera. The performance will be sung in Italian with English translations projected above the stage, ensuring that everyone can fully enjoy the witty libretto and the enchanting score.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 PM on Friday, November 15, and Saturday, November 16, with a matinee at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 17, 2024.
