Brahms' string sextets are considered among his greatest works in the chamber music genre. He made his own arrangements of them for piano four-hands, common practice at the time for making the music known and increasing opportunities for royalties. When his friend Theodor Kirchner arranged them for piano trio (piano, violin, and cello), Brahms was delighted. However, Kirchner’s stripped-down version suggests that he was targeting amateur players. Prof. Gregory Allen will premiere his own piano trio transcriptions of the original sextets in this recital.

In 2027 it will be 10 years since Sigurd's Danish History was performed for the first time. At the same time, Denmark's own Sigurd turns 60, and we celebrate both by reviving his major work, the theatre concert SIGURD FORTÆLLER DANMARKSHISTORIE.
