Winners of the 2023 Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank Competition join Artistic Director Jonathan Crow and harpsichordist Christopher Bagan for an evening of baroque music gems by Bach and Vivaldi! Join us for an enchanting evening of classical music with the Callisto Quartet at the beautiful Caramoor in Katonah, NY, on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 7:00pm. Set in the picturesque Spanish Courtyard, this event promises to be a memorable experience for chamber music enthusiasts.

The Callisto Quartet, praised for their "intensity and bravado" as well as the "cohesion and intonation one might expect from an ensemble twice their age" (Third Coast Review), has quickly risen to prominence since their formation in 2016 at the Cleveland Institute of Music. They have achieved top honors in prestigious competitions, including the 2018 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the 2019 Banff International String Quartet Competition. Their current role as the Fellowship Quartet-in-Residence at Yale University, along with previous residencies at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music and the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain, underscores their exceptional talent and dedication to their craft.

For this special performance, the quartet will present a program featuring W.A. Mozart's String Quartet No. 16 in E-flat major, K428, and Franz Schubert's String Quartet No. 14 in D Minor, D.810 "Death and the Maiden." These pieces showcase the depth and breadth of the quartet's musicality and promise to deliver an evening of stirring and emotive performances.

The Callisto Quartet comprises Cameron Daly and Gregory Lewis on violin, Eva Kennedy on viola, and Hannah Moses on cello. Their collective artistry and individual talents come together to create performances that are both dynamic and nuanced.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the originally scheduled Ivalas Quartet will not perform. However, the Callisto Quartet, Caramoor’s 2020-22 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence, is set to captivate audiences with their exceptional performance.
