Here are three, presented by Yutaka Sado and the National: the idealized one, of a Capriccio made to "shine with the virtuosity of its orchestral coloring," says Rimsky-Korsakov, that musician "of the starry night and the golden sun" admired by Vladimir Jankélévitch; the other, more earthy and bloody, of Bizet and Carmen ; finally, between the fragrances of magnolias, the song of birds and the trickling of fountains, that of Rodrigo and his Concerto under the fingers of Thibaut Garcia.

Even the greatest artists started small and learned from their masters. This is also the case with this year's featured artist, Thibaut Garcia. The talented student eventually became a teacher who is now passionately dedicated to fostering new talent. Thanks to his commitment, we are able to experience not just one, but five guitars on stage this evening. In their varied program, ranging from Ravel and Bizet to a selection of Spanish composers, the young guitarists not only pay tribute to their teacher's roots but also build on his charismatic, virtuoso playing. We are looking forward to this exclusive concert evening and can't wait to see what the future generation of exceptional guitarists has in store for their audience.

Three exceptional talents who have repeatedly captivated Rheingau audiences with their musicality return – this time in a unique constellation: Anastasia Kobekina, who shone with technical brilliance and musical depth in several concerts last year as a Focus Artist; Jordan Victoria, who has already performed twice at the Rheingau Music Festival with the Quatuor Arod; and this year's Focus Artist, Thibaut Garcia, with his warm guitar sounds. In this exclusive line-up of guitar, violin, and cello, they now take the stage together for the first time, bringing masterpieces by Paganini, Piazzolla, Granados, de Fossa, and other composers to life.

A southern flair pervades the Rheingau region – and for good reason: This year, we're dedicating a special focus to the land of passionate guitar sounds. As one of the most important Spanish composers of our time and the guitar's most important advocate, Joaquín Rodrigo, with his "Concierto de Aranjuez," the epitome of the guitar concerto, is a must. At the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, we're preparing a concert fiesta for the great composer, just as he would have loved it – performed by the country's young musical talent, the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España, and Thibaut Garcia, hailed by the press as the "new face of the classical guitar." Strong words! But anyone who has experienced the soulful playing of this year's featured artist will wholeheartedly agree.

Do Bach's "Goldberg Variations" help you sleep better? That, at least, was the idea behind the composition that Count von Keyserlingk commissioned from none other than Johann Sebastian Bach. He wanted a piece of music with a "gentle and somewhat lively character" that would make it easier for him to fall asleep. He hadn't expected that Bach would send him such an artistic, complex, and yet exciting masterpiece, whose balance between soulful sensitivity and supreme technical mastery is bound to hold anyone's breath. And that's even more true when these two are at work: Thibaut Garcia and Antoine Morinière, two outstanding virtuosos, have taken on the challenge of transposing Bach's magnificent piano work to twelve guitar strings. The result is so touchingly beautiful, and the perfect harmony of their instruments so impressive, that sleep is completely out of the question.

Award-winning guitarist Thibaut Garcia will be appearing in the "Summer of Music" for the fourth time in a row this year—this time as one of the featured artists at this year's Rheingau Music Festival. Dubbed "one of the most promising young guitarists of our time" by the trade press, he is now an established artist on the major stages of the world's most renowned concert halls and a true connoisseur's tip for all guitar fans in the Rheingau. This summer, the exceptional guitarist will whisk his audience away to Spain, a country whose musical heritage is closely linked to guitar music, with a lovingly crafted solo program. Highlighted in this year's country focus, this program offers a wide array of musical treasures.

And this year, pure harmony is once again the order of the day when we invite you to the Mediterranean Night. The program includes masterpieces from Spain and Italy, bringing the sunny, light-hearted attitude to life and the full range of spirited music of the Mediterranean directly to the audience's own region. An atmospheric concert experience, flooded with a summery flair, that not only puts you in a good mood but also offers a reunion with the Festival Strings Lucerne under the direction of Daniel Dodds and this year's featured artist, Thibaut Garcia.

„Ich hatte keinen Plan B“, erzählte Thibaut Garcia kürzlich in einem Interview. Genau das war der Gedanke des damals 16-Jährigen, als sein Gitarrenlehrer ihm erstmals eröffnete, dass man am Pariser Konservatorium das Saiteninstrument studieren könne. Bevor Garcia, 1994 in Toulouse geboren, die Konzertsäle erobert hat, galten Gitarrenkonzerte nämlich noch als Rarität auf den Spielplänen. Er bewarb sich, spielte und – siegte. Neben einem Studienplatz gewann er 2015 den Ersten Preis bei der Guitar Foundation of America – ein Meilenstein auf dem Weg des jungen Musikers an die Weltspitze. Seither zählt Thibaut Garcia nicht nur zu den erfolgreichsten Gitarren-Solisten, sondern setzt sich auch für die Wertschätzung seines Instruments in der Klassikwelt ein. Vom Barock über Klassik und Romantik bis hin zur zeitgenössischen Musik – bei seinen internationalen Konzerten präsentiert er die ganze Vielfalt des Gitarren-Repertoires.

Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez is an icon in Spanish music, and surely the greatest guitar concerto ever written. It’s the centrepiece of a programme that also transports us to Andalucia with works by Joaquín Turina and Manuel de Falla. And then we’re in the company of Maurice Ravel, born to a Basque mother by the Spanish border, with two of his most enchanting pieces: the Mother Goose suite and the indelible Boléro.

A rhythm, a flute, and a melody you’ll never forget… it’s hard to say what exactly makes Ravel’s Boléro so irresistible. But this French composer had Spanish blood, and tonight’s concert is filled with the sunshine, the fragrance and the pure, intoxicating passion of Spain at its most seductive. Wild, whirling dances from Falla and Turina, delicate fairy tales from Ravel – it’s a fiesta in sound, even before Boléro strikes up that unstoppable beat.

But we couldn’t spend a night in Spain without hearing the classical guitar, and tonight the Coruña-based Spanish Galicia Symphony Orchestra is joined by dazzling young French guitarist Thibaut Garcia in that most Spanish of all guitar concertos: Rodrigo’s haunting and much-loved Concierto de Aranjuez.

Our first visit from a Spanish orchestra in many a year brings this exciting young ensemble from the port city of A Coruña. They’re joined by Thibaut Garcia, who’s been hailed as ‘the new face of classical guitar’ after winning every major international guitar competition within the space of just a few months. His performance of Rodrigo’s evergreen Concierto de Aranjuez – so popular that it’s been recorded over a hundred times – is the centrepiece of a richly varied programme from Spain and France.
