Luisa, the daughter of the veteran Miller, is in love with a young hunter who has come to her village with the arrival of the new feudal lord. But Wurm, the castle steward, is also in love with Luisa. He reveals the true identity of the supposed huntsman to her father: It is Rodolfo, the feudal lord's son, which makes a marriage with Luisa impossible for reasons of status. Rodolfo wants to fight for his love, but he and Luisa fall into the trap of the intriguing and corrupt court society.

Beloved sopranos Angel Blue and Ailyn Pérez make their company role debuts as the long-suffering Desdemona, alongside baritones Amartuvshin Enkhbat and Artur Ruciński as the sinister Iago. Daniele Rustioni and Michele Mariotti lead the full forces of the Met Orchestra and Chorus in the exhilarating score.

Brahms wrestled with self-doubt and frustration for 21 years while composing his Symphony No. 1 — an artistic battle we can hear in the roar of sound that opens the work. Amid the drama and angst, however, Brahms’ symphony also showcases his gentler side, journeying through moments of heavenly lyricism and playful dances before ending in a brassy blaze of triumph.
