Endowed with dazzling orchestration and influenced by the oriental trend that swept through the 19th century, Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" (1888) is one of the peaks of descriptive music, inspired by the most beautiful stories from "One Thousand and One Nights." Ten years after their brilliant interpretation of Gulda's Concerto, the OPRL (Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège) and the German cellist Alban Gerhardt reunite for Shostakovich's First Cello Concerto (1959), a dark work premiered by Rostropovich in Leningrad, and a new composition by Éric Montalbetti (born in 1968), conceived in the manner of a nocturnal prayer.
