Im Mittelpunkt des Konzerts steht das auf dem Marktplatz zu Halle stehende Händel-Denkmal. Finanziert durch großzügige Spenden und Benefiz-Konzerte wurde es zum 100. Todestag des Komponisten im Jahr 1859 eingeweiht. Selbst die international gefeierte Sopranistin Jenny Lind ließ es sich nicht nehmen und reiste nach Halle, um in einer Messiah-Aufführung zu Gunsten des Denkmals mitzuwirken.
