Eugène Ysaÿe was considered one of the leading violinists of his era. The Belgian composer’s Chant d’hiver conjures up a sparkling, winter setting, followed by the song of the nightingale in Stravinsky’s Le chant du Rossignol. The Russian composer originally wrote this for a ballet based on Hans Christian’s Andersen fairytale The Nightingale.
