Conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla is joined by violinist Vilde Frang for Elgar’s Violin Concerto, a work featuring passionate expression from the soloist and a rich orchestral palette. György Kurtág’s Brefs messages is performed on the composer’s centennial, and spring arrives with Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 — with brass fanfares and pastoral interludes that lead to an ecstatic ending.
