Following the sell-out success of Beethoven’s Fifths, the world-famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performs another all-Beethoven programme, this time finding the composer in a more romantic frame of mind.

Written during Beethoven’s infatuation with his ‘Immortal Beloved’, the Fourth Piano Concerto flouts convention at virtually every turn. Tender and lyrical, it culminates in a jubilant finale that seems to suggest the composer, endlessly unlucky in matters of the heart, has discovered the joy of life itself.

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral’

JS Bach’s Magnificat in D is one of the best-loved works in the choral repertoire. Taken from Luke’s gospel, the text is the Virgin Mary’s canticle celebrating her pregnancy with the promised Messiah. In his magnificent setting, Bach amplifies the voice of an ordinary young woman as she responds to the astounding news that she would give birth to the Son of God.

Mozart’s Litaniae Lauretanae, a devotional to Mary written when he was only fifteen, showcases energy and sensitive artistry, with dynamic mood shifts capturing both reverence and exuberance.

Beethoven didn’t have much time for tyrants. “If I understood war as well as I understand music, I would conquer him” was his verdict when Napoleon invaded Austria – and judging from the daring, the charisma and the sheer, elemental force of his ‘Eroica’ (Heroic) Symphony, he might have had a point.

The commitment and skill of Ukrainian musicians always receives a warm welcome here at Cadogan Hall, and tonight, one of Ukraine’s most-admired pianists takes the spotlight in the majestic ‘Emperor’ Concerto – music of unbreakable grandeur and defiance, and the perfect complement to the ‘Eroica’.

This concert brings together two great romantic German composers, Mendelssohn and Brahms.

The works are both rousing and comforting in nature, and the much-loved Ein deutsches Requiem, which Brahms referred to as a ‘human requiem’, is written to console the living and to explore grief in its many forms, rather than to accompany the dead.

Direct from London’s world-famous jazz club and combining world-class live jazz, narration, rare archive photos and video footage, The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars take to the stage to celebrate The Ronnie Scott’s Story.

Set amongst the dive bars and jazz jook joints of London’s Soho, we hear about the desperate hand-to-mouth finances of the early years and the frequent police raids. We hear how Ronnie’s became neutral ground within rife gang territory and their scrapes with gangsters, including the Krays who were rumoured to have taken Ronnie Scott ‘for a little drive’!

Life at Ronnie’s is evocatively reimagined through tales of the club’s past visitors, from pop stars, film stars and politicians to comedians and royalty – but above all, the musicians.

VOCES8, joined by composer-in-residence, Taylor Scott Davis, and choirs from across the United States, collaborate with Vox Anima London in this unique choral offering featuring well-known and recently-composed repertoire, under the direction of Barnaby Smith.

The concert opens with VOCES8 performing alongside the visiting ensembles and culminates with VOCES8’s solo set of beloved repertoire and a return of all performing forces to the stage for a stunning finale.

At the age of 22, Rachmaninov had his heart broken. He poured all his ambition and all his emotion into the epic score of his First Symphony, which goes off like a volcano – wild, passionate and positively brimming with inspiration. For many years it was lost, but today conductor Nil Venditti gives this youthful tour de force its due.

The Northampton-born composer Edmund Rubbra, meanwhile, was one of the most admired names in post-war British music, but today his radiant Piano Concerto – inspired by the flowers and moods of the English countryside – is a real rarity. Pianist Mark Bebbington has made it his mission to rediscover Britain’s lost masterworks, and this one’s a jewel. You might be about to discover your new favourite piece.

Discovering Morricone pays an orchestral tribute to the renowned Italian composer, delving into his vast repertoire, from timeless classics to lesser-known yet beautifully captivating pieces.

More than a traditional concert, this musical journey will guide the audience through the decades that shaped the greatness of Italian and international cinema through the evocative power of Morricone’s iconic melodies, including classics like Once Upon a Time in the West, Cinema Paradiso, The Hateful Eight, and Malèna.

Experience the beauty and drama of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, performed by candlelight by the acclaimed chamber ensemble London Concertante. From the icy winds of winter to the gentle bloom of spring, this iconic work remains one of the most evocative pieces of classical music ever written.

He’s too modest to admit it, but Sir John Rutter might just be the world’s best-loved living classical composer. Millions have sung his music, millions more have been touched by it: fresh, sincere and written with genuine love, it’s part of all our lives.

For the RPO, any chance to work with Sir John is a special occasion, and tonight’s concert is no exception as he conducts the UK premiere of Reflections, a brand new piano concerto which will be performed by British pianist Steven Osborne.

Streatham Choral and the Brandenburg Sinfonia bring the brilliance of Haydn’s The Creation to Cadogan Hall, directed by Calum Fraser.

Impressed and inspired by Handel’s great oratorios which he heard during visits to London, Haydn said, “I was struck as if I had been put back a hundred years in my art.”

The resulting 1798 masterpiece bursts with vivid orchestral colour, soaring choruses, and movements of awe and wonder, as it celebrates the dawn of light and life in the story of Genesis.

Give Me Your Stars explores the profound and diverse beauty of music inspired by the heavens, human connection, and the places we call home. At its heart is Lucy Walker’s eponymous new work, written for VOCES8, which captures the delicate balance between celestial wonder and the deep, personal connections that make us human.

The programme spans centuries of choral music, from the luminous polyphony of Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Regina caeli to timeless jazz standards. Along the way, we encounter the reflective sentiments of Eric Whitacre’s All Seems Beautiful to Me and Ola Gjeilo’s Ubi caritas, folk traditions in Danny Boy and Michael McGlynn’s Dúlamán, and evocative tales of cities and starlight in April in Paris and New York, New York.
