Join chief conductor Martyn Brabbins out into nature where we can join the happy composer in the Pastoral Symphony and enjoy the babbling brook where the nightingale sings its trill. Our own brilliant concertmaster Marika Fältskog gently coaxes the lark's poetic flight from her violin in The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Danish Nancy Dalberg is still relatively unknown, but once you get to know her refined music, she easily becomes a favorite. Carl Nielsen was her teacher and supporter, conducting the critically acclaimed premiere of Dalberg's Scherzo for string orchestra .

Broken hearts have given rise to many musical masterpieces, and in this concert, world singer Peter Mattei interprets with poignant blackness and overwhelming vocal beauty the young Gustav Mahler's bitter love pain in Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. After a disastrous marriage, Pyotr Tchaikovsky seeks peace of mind with his customary abundance of languid, singable melodies in Symphony No. 4 .
