When Brahms was asked to compose something ceremonial for the University of Breslau, he surprisingly chose the students’ own songs as his themes. The cleverly sophisticated Academic Festival Overture was, of course, a triumph. Beethoven is also in a celebratory mood in Symphony No. 7. The multi-talented conductor Delyana Lazarova leads the orchestra with sure hands through exuberant dance rhythms and delightful surprises.
