Tuba players aren’t often described as charismatic stars, but over the past decade Theon Cross has emerged from London’s roiling jazz scene as an unstoppable creative force. Best known as a founding member of tenor saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings’ roots-jazz quartet Sons of Kemet, which nearly caused structural damage to the SFJAZZ Center back in 2019, Cross makes his Bay Area debut as a bandleader with a blazing young group straight out of London....
