The chamber music program by Anna-Maria Barth, concertmaster of the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt, and her piano partner Alex Pudmann fulfills a long-held desire to place creative women at the center of a program. This is less about the question of whether a program exclusively featuring works by female composers is still necessary today. We are simply embarking on a musical journey of discovery – and one that goes far beyond well-known names like Clara Schumann (1819-1896) and Lili Boulanger (1893-1918)
. We are discovering romantic, extremely rarely performed violin music not only from Europe but from all over the world:
the Romance Op. 23 by the American Amy Beach (1867-1944), the violin sonata by the Swede Amanda Maier (1853-1894), and the Fantasy No. 1 by the American Florence Price (1887-1953). And last but not least, with Le Grand Tango, the recently deceased Russian Sofia Gubaidulina (1931-2025), inspired by Shostakovich and one of the most honored musicians of our time, will perform. An evening full of elegance, passion, and musical power – dedicated to the great women of music!

The New Year's Concert of the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt features waltzes, polkas, marches, arias, and duets, lively and melodious music by Johann Strauss, Robert Stolz, Paul Lincke, and many other masters of light music. The great tradition of the Viennese New Year's Concerts will be duly honored, with gems by Vivaldi and Dvořák, and delicacies like "Veronika, der Lenz ist da" (Veronica, Spring Is Here) and the brilliant "Frühlingsstimmenwalzer " (Spring Voices Waltz) – the finest entertainment all about spring.

you'll discover the word "rock" in the word "baroque" – thus dusting off the image of this era with the diversity of Baroque art music: Italy's Dario Castello, France's Jean-Marie Leclair, and the two Germans Georg Friedrich Handel and Georg Philipp Telemann demonstrate with
their works what 17th and 18th century Europe had to offer in terms of variety and diverse musical styles. The evening is given an additional fresh splash of color by two dreamy arias that give the program its title.

Grażyna Bacewicz is not only one of Poland's greatest composers, she was also an outstanding violinist, serving as concertmaster of the Polish Radio Orchestra in the years before World War II and performing throughout Europe in the postwar period. This skill and experience are evident in Bacewicz's Uwertura in every one of its gripping seven minutes: an orchestral firework whose drive and power effortlessly surpasses many of its more famous (male) competitors.

Rossini's operas sent their audiences into a frenzy. The overture to Semiramide was no exception : brisk fanfares at the beginning, a rapid succession of lively melodies in the allegro, a rousing crescendo at the end and a triumphant conclusion.

If the string quartet were to be described as the supreme discipline of chamber music, then the piano quintet would be the pinnacle. And when the “veterans” of the New Philharmonic Frankfurt play together, it is very special after the orchestra’s 25th anniversary year. They have known and loved each other for a long time, but it was only five years ago that they founded the four4strings together – because a productive collaboration in chamber music not only requires maturity but also a certain amount of composure. The ensemble motto: “ From baroque to rock, there is good and bad music – we play everything that is good, across genres and borders”. And so the four NPF members are devoting themselves to really good music in the 16th Wilhelmsbad Chamber Concert together with the pianist Gavin Brady: Robert Schumann composed his Opus 44 in 1842 in a rapturous creative frenzy over the course of just five days, thus founding the piano quintet genre in the first place. Dvořák's Opus 81, premiered in Prague in January 1888, fits seamlessly into the large series of romantic piano quintets.

Oboist Juri Vallentin shows off his skills in two concertos: Tommaso Albinoni's op. 9, No. 11 and Ralph Vaughan Williams' Oboe Concerto from 1943. Bruckner turns 200! The work of the great composer is unique in music history: eight perfect symphonies that are among the most overwhelming ever written.

This was not foreseeable. Anton Bruckner came from modest circumstances, and a performance of Tannhäuser was an awakening experience. Wagner's music had the same effect on the 40-year-old Bruckner as the magic potion on Obelix - once he had fallen into it, his strength never waned. A magical repertoire for this unusual line-up has so far remained almost undiscovered. It often comes to light in the spring during Lent, when Johann Sebastian Bach has arias for soprano accompanied by just a flute in his oratorios. In the 14th Wilhelmsbad Chamber Concert, however, purely French compositions are heard: with spotted pastel pictures before our eyes and twittering birds and a jubilant soprano in our ears, the program “La Flute Chantante” glitters into spring. The famous flute solo at the beginning of Claude Debussy's Prélude a l'après-midi d'un faune brought a musical era to its knees. Debussy countered the Wagnerism that was also prevalent in France with sensibilité and clarté: twelve minutes of pure sonic magic.

The year is young and we are reaching for the stars! The program "You are my heaven on earth" takes the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt and its chief conductor Jens Troester on a spectacular musical journey to the moon and beyond: with operetta-like verve we reach the earth's satellite, with film music verve we reach space. Of course, Johann Strauss and co. cannot be left out: waltzes, polkas, lively marches and spirited dances can be heard, two wonderful soloists sing arias, hits and pop songs.

The gifted Lili Boulanger died at the age of just 24. Despite her fragile health, she managed to create a small yet exquisite oeuvre, primarily chamber and vocal music of incomparable spirituality and impressionistically delicate color. The sparkling Scherzo "D'un matin de printemps," lasting only a few minutes, is in no way inferior to the best works of Debussy or Ravel.
