As the dawn of 2025 approaches, music enthusiasts in Denmark are in for a treat with a series of New Year's concerts featuring the illustrious baritone Frederik Rolin. From the 11th to the 26th of January, the Danish Chamber Players will host these captivating events across various venues, including Allerød Musikskole, KUMUS, and more. Which wind instrument has the greatest range of expression, can squeal like a tram on rusty rails (Carl Nielsen) or creep into the heart as in Mozart's last solo concerto for, yes, precisely the clarinet.

The clarinet also sent Beethoven and Brahms into ecstasy, but here at this portrait concert, the Ensemble's new clarinetist, Frederik von Würden, shows that there are other and more expressions in the diverse Clarinet. Monet blue and other pastel colors by Debussy, classical-sounding chamber music by Mel Bonis, the great romantic sound in Paul Juon's trio, the completely modern, where all the outer limits of the clarinet are almost blown up in a solo sonata by Denisov and the oriental tone language by Katchaturian.

Schubert Lounge is a contemporary reflection on Franz Schubert's Lieder and presents Schubert as a modern singer-songwriter in a new intimate and present concert format. The work was written by the Norwegian composer Eivind Buene.

At the closing concert, Schubert's Lieder, classically sung by the Norwegian baritone Halvor Melien and the Danish mezzo-soprano Andrea Pellegrini, meets the untrained composer's voice when Eivind Buene sings and accompanies himself on a Fender Rhodes electric piano.

This year, the ensemble has launched a long-term collaboration across the border with the music conservatory in Lübeck. From here comes the young award-winning wind quintet Quantum Quintett, which plays a program of Danish and German music (as well as Mozart).

DR's P2 talent Louise McClelland Jacobsen sings arias and songs by Weyse, Mozart and Svend S. Schultz, and the program also offers Kuhlau's piano quartet and modern works with Danish-German roots.

His music was the sound of a zeitgeist. And the man Niels W. Gade was a powerful personality. Not just in Denmark but throughout the world of classical music.

Ensemble Storstrøm rounds off the Nakskov Culture Day with 2 iconic works that exude enchantment and imagination. Schubert's beautiful F minor fantasy for piano can be heard in a version for the ensemble's 8 musicians, where the timbres are amplified. As was often done in late Romanticism, where there was not always access to large symphony orchestras, the new works which are premiered at this concert are intended as a downscaling of the Romantic violin concerto in a Nordic project with "Pocket Concertos" by Nordic composers. In addition, the program offers a classic by Debussy and a very charming piano quartet inspired by folk tunes and Negro spirituals in the 3rd movement by the American composer Florence Price.

Throughout the spring, all 8 entry-level classes and their teachers are involved in Sangkraft Guldborgsund's school project "More singing in everyday life". The project will be completed i.a. with this concert led by children's choir director Jannie Ekelund.

The concerts take place in the Kompagnihuset, which is designed as a "Medieval culture house" and is located in the middle of the festival square in the great hall. The concerts last a maximum of 25 minutes, so you can also experience the rest of the festival. There will be signage to help you find your way to Kompagnihuset, so you can enjoy ES's fantastic medieval music.

On this occasion, we will be visited by the critically acclaimed author and visual artist CY Frostholm, who will take us into his own fascination with trees and take us on a journey through the meaning of trees. In 2018, Frostholm published the literary magnum opus Træmuseet, which received the Critics' Prize and was nominated for Politiken's Literature Prize, and in 2021 the Laurel Dialogues followed. Among other things, Cyf will read out selected passages from his writing, accompanied by images and motifs that all revolve around and examine the trees.

When The Danish Chamber Players go on tour to Mumbai, they present a chamber music program that consists of some of the most famous composers in western classical music: Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms and more. Both music from the French impressionism, three composers from the Viennese School in the 18th and 19th century; Beethoven, Schubert and Mozart. From the Nordic countries we have brought the beautiful Lyric Pieces by Grieg which picture the Nordic nature and from Brazil we will play some passionate and warmblooded music by one of our favorites; Astor Piazzolla. The iconic classical pieces are presented in new intimate chamber music versions, most of them arranged by the pianist of the Danish Chamber Players, Jakob Westh.

On Friday, Ensemble Storstrøm travels to Mumbai, India, where we are invited to hold 2 chamber concerts and a symphony concert together with India's only classical symphony orchestra: the South India Symphony Orchestra. We are rehearsing a touring program consisting of music by the greatest classical composers presented with chamber musical intimacy.

For the closing concert, there are Swedish folk songs on the program sung by Holsted Church's talented youth choir together with Ensemble Storstrøm.

The ensemble also presents a fantastic piano quintet with African-American inspiration by Florence Price and Hungarian and Russian takes on folk music in the classical rounding off the theme with folkloric charm.

The concert offers music from warm climes in a beautiful interplay between the soloists Bilal Irshed on the rare stringed instrument from the Middle East, the oud, and Henrik Goldschmidt on oboe and Ensemble Storstrøm.

During the spring, Næstved Music School's students have diligently practiced some numbers together with Henrik Goldschmidt, who is looking forward to playing with the professional musicians at the concert.

Ensemble Storstrøm's new program consultant Rie Koch will lead the audience through a musical journey, where the Ensemble will play Nordic folk tunes, and further through European folk traditions from the Czech Republic, Hungary, England and Spain, and we will come a long way - also musically - to the USA and Scott Joplin.
