The Schubert Society has set out to investigate this when we invite two of Denmark's leading musicians within their respective genres, jazz pianist Carsten Dahl and classical cellist Toke Møldrup, into a room together with young talented classical instrumentalists from the Jacob Gades Legat.

The main character Jacob and his family live close to the sea under an old tree. One day Jacob catches a very special fish. It looks at him with its big eyes and pleads with him: "Throw me back into the water and I will fulfill your wishes." Jacob puts the fish back into the water, and the fish does as it promised. But for every wish that comes true, Jacob and his family just want more… and more wants more. Until the fish suddenly looks completely weak and pale. And isn't it also as if the sea is getting more and more agitated?

The concert's opening piece, Haydn's piano trio in E minor, is both a classical piano trio, sprung from and further developed from the earlier form "accompanied sonata", where the violin and cello are included as a kind of supplement to the keyboard instrument, and at the same time it is one of the first trios where Haydn indicates "Pianoforte", i.e. specifically the piano and not the harpsichord as the keyboard instrument.

This year we have therefore invited the soprano Brit-Tone, accompanied by the pianist Kristoffer Hyldig, to give their take on a selection of Schubert's inexhaustible Liedskat. The two musicians have worked together for many years and perform around the country with lied concerts with e.g. Brahms, Wagner and Schubert on the programme.

Solofløjtenist i DR SymfoniOrkestret, Ulla Miilmann og den fremragende bulgarskfødte pianist Galya Kolarova har i en årrække dannet duo. Composer Johan Sebastian Bach's famous 6 suites for solo cello form the musical common thread throughout the race. Toke Møldrup alternately runs and plays his way through a total of 36 movements from the 6 suites. He plays a bet, runs a kilometer and continues like this until he reaches the finish line.

"Two Danes and a Swede walk into a bar"... This is not the beginning of a joke, but the beginning of a beautiful musical partnership. The folk music trio Dreamers' Circus was created late one night in a bar in Copenhagen, where pianist Nikolaj Busk heard violinist Rune Tonsgaard play together with Ale Carr, who plays the cittern.

Henrik Goldschmidt og Morten Ryelund er solister i Bachs vidunderlige koncert for obo og violin. Derudover byder programmet på forskellige klassiske komponisters greb på folkemusik og folketone. Som et ekstra krydderi vil man også kunne opleve Henrik Goldschmidt som solist og sanger (!) i musik han selv har skrevet – og når Henrik Goldschmidt lukker øjnene og med sin obo forsvinder dybt ind i musikken, ved man, at det er de store følelser, der er på færde.
