We end our anniversary celebration as we began: In the bright surroundings of Mogens Dahl Concert Hall and in the company of good music friends. Trio con Brio Copenhagen, together with Andreas Brantelid on cello, has put together a varied and festive program with a cello extravaganza and Mendelssohn's dramatic piano trio in C minor as the end of a four-day music festival.

We are rarely confronted with death in our culture. We don't talk about it and we move it to nursing homes and hospices. Perhaps a new attitude towards death and grief is slowly emerging, but we still lack rituals and spaces to face them, because studies show that grief is fundamentally lonely in our society. The concert series 'The Tones of Death' will attempt to create such a space, perhaps a modern mourning ritual, where death is existential and where we can be together about it.

In 2021, the Danish Entertainment Orchestra performed the first concert with 'The Tones of Death', which was framed by excerpts from Naja Marie Aidt's 'If death has taken something from you, give it back. Carl's book', selected and read by the author herself. Since then, there have been successful concerts in 2022 and 2023 with, among others, Søren Ulrik Thomsen and Maren Uthaug as literary guests.

The Royal Danish Academy of Music

Andreas Brantelid is a Danish-Swedish cellist. He began playing the cello at the age of 4 with his father as a teacher, and had his debut concert with the Royal Danish Orchestra at the age of 14, playing Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto. In 2006, he won the Eurovision Song Contest for Young Soloists representing Sweden.

Ved denne koncert vender den populære cellist Andreas Brantelid tilbage til Tivoli som solist i Richard Strauss’ tonedigt Don Quixote. Det er musik, som fortæller historien om adelsmanden Don Quixote fra Cervantes ridderroman. Værket er som en gigantisk cellokoncert, hvor Andreas Brantelid – med sin cello – skildrer Don Quixote, der rejser ud i verden for at bekæmpe ondskab. Tivoli Copenhagen Phil dirigeres af Christoph Gedschold, som også har Mozarts vidunderlige symfoni nr. 40 med.

Cellist Andreas Brantelid is one of the best musicians of his generation. At just 14 years old, he made his debut with the Royal Danish Orchestra, playing Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto – the same iconic work that cello legend Jacqueline Du Pré also made his debut with.


When he turned 30, he described his passion for music to DR with the words: “There's something about it that you can't help but do. I can't really give you an answer as to why I have the lifestyle I have, which is to travel a lot and play concerts all the time. It can't be any other way. It would simply hurt too much in the heart to say no to playing.”
