A celebration in radiant C major is to be expected at the 1st Baroque Hall Classic, which will bring together soloists, the Singakademie and the North German Philharmonic Orchestra Rostock under the direction of their chief conductor Marcus Bosch at another venue, in the church of the University of Rostock. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's early Missa in C major, KV 317, was written for Salzburg Cathedral. Often played at coronation ceremonies of emperors and kings after Mozart's death, the work was given the title Coronation Mass . For his last symphony, Mozart also chose the key of C major, which is characterized by its majestic character. The work became the crowning conclusion of his symphonic work and was later given the nickname Jupiter in reference to the ancient prince of the gods .

As every year, the North German Philharmonic Orchestra Rostock starts the season with three concerts as part of the MV Festival, which take place in cooperation with the summer campus of the hmt Rostock. This year's concerts in the Holy Spirit Church in Wismar, in the Bützow Collegiate Church and in the Katharinensaal of the hmt Rostock will not only feature the results of the master classes, but also well-known musicians such as the pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimar, the violinist Henja Semmler, the cellist Daniel Müller-Schott and the trombonist Jamie Williams, who act as lecturers during the summer campus. Mozart - a master who reinvented music. His fifth and final Violin Concerto in A major, also known as the Turkish Concerto , is considered the musical high point of Mozart's earlier work. It is also popular because of its effective style, which allows the soloists a great deal of virtuosity. The 22-year-old violinist Mira Foron was a guest for the first time in 2019 to perform the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D major with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock.

Concerts in the Summer Campus: III. Final Concert

The North German Philharmonic Orchestra Rostock is starting its new concert season passionately and legendary, this time again in the charming industrial ambience of Hall 207. Star percussionist Alexej Gerassimez has been invited as a soloist, whose phenomenal power and virtuosity will give the old walls a special vibration. The exceptional percussionist has brought with him the Concerto Leviathan by New Zealander John Psathas, which was created for the Beethoven project Pastorale , an initiative by UN Climate Change and BTHVN2020 in the year of Beethoven's 250th birthday to address climate and environmental change. Alexej Gerassimez himself premiered this concerto in 2021 in the Berlin Philharmonic.

1st Philharmonic Concert / Overwhelming

Anton Bruckner described his 6th Symphony as his boldest . It was written after a long creative break and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra enjoyed it so much during a rehearsal that they applauded loudly and made a fanfare . Bruckner was unable to experience the premiere of his symphony, and especially not the success of this flowing, light-hearted and at the same time very personal work.

3rd Philharmonic Concert / Birthday Magic

With four performances of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, the North German Philharmonic Orchestra Rostock, under the direction of its chief conductor Marcus Bosch, is saying goodbye to the year 2024. In doing so, it is following a more than 100-year-old tradition from Leipzig. This work was performed there on New Year's Eve in 1918 with the Gewandhaus Orchestra under Arthur Nikisch, welcoming the new year 1919 with the final chorus of Schiller's Ode to Joy . There will be two performances this year in the main hall of the Rostock Volkstheater on December 31st.

Johannes Brahms's Fifth Symphony - as conductor Otto Klemperer jokingly described Arnold Schönberg's arrangement of Brahms' piano quartet - is on the chief conductor's desk for the February concert. At Klemperer's suggestion, Schönberg arranged this chamber music for orchestra in 1937. " The arrangement sounds so beautiful that you don't even want to listen to the original quartet anymore ," said Klemperer after the premiere in Los Angeles. " All I had to do was transfer this sound to the orchestra and that's all I did ," explained Schönberg. His intention was to stick strictly to Brahms' style and not to go further than he himself would have gone had he been alive today .

When Bedřich Smetana began writing tone poems, he was probably modeled on the compositions of Franz Liszt, as the latter was well known as the father of the genre. The Bohemian later said that he wanted to outdo the master with his own symphonic poems . Má Vlast goes back to the idea of ​​portraying themes from his homeland in a cycle of tone poems - as an orchestral counterpart to his confessional opera Libussa . Originally intended as a tetralogy, Smetana later composed two more parts. When the complete cycle was premiered in Prague in 1882, the composer, who had since become completely deaf, reaped great success with this work dominated by national themes, which quickly conquered the concert stage with its impressively fresh musical design, especially Moldau , which was often separated from the cycle and performed separately .

9th Philharmonic Concert / Moldau Plus

A special highlight is to be expected at the end of the Philharmonic season with Raphaela Gromes, probably the most successful German cellist of our time (Rondo Magazine). In 2023, the exceptional artist enchanted around 3,000 listeners with her virtuoso, expressive and technically perfect playing at the annual Classical Night event in Rostock Zoo. In June 2025, she will return with Edward Elgar's famous Cello Concerto in her luggage - the Briton's last major orchestral work with the passionate and at the same time wistful tone. Written in 1919, it is a work of farewell and a look back at a time long gone.
