So it goes in Mahler's Symphony No. 2, and so it will be for the people of Bonn and the entire Beethoven Orchestra when the mighty first chord of Beethoven's last piano concerto resounds on Tuesday, December 16, 2025: After nine and a half years of renovation, the Beethoven Hall—our Beethoven Hall and yours—will reopen! We have fanned out into the city, we have tried to win your hearts, and you have remained loyal to us throughout the pandemic. We have played in factory halls, on construction sites, in hotels, gymnasiums, and schools; we have presented ourselves as a large orchestra and in small ensembles.

Mozart's music had already captivated Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. "Listening to it gives me unadulterated joy, evokes a feeling of warmth within me," he once wrote. In his Romantic era, minor-key works such as Mozart's Piano Fantasy K. 397 were particularly popular.

Fabian Müller has already performed all of Ludwig van Beethoven's piano sonatas in the Pierre Boulez Hall; now he will play Mozart's A major concerto, composed in 1786 while he was working on Le nozze di Figaro . Norwegian conductor Tabita Berglund will be heard conducting the Staatskapelle Berlin for the first time, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in the meditative sound world of Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, who celebrates his 90th birthday a few days before the concert. The music of Dobrinka Tabakova, which references a melody by Franz Schubert, leads into a "kind of weightlessness through the cosmos, past stars and planets." Schubert's enigmatic Symphony in B minor will be heard next – music that oscillates between lyrical intensity and gloom, between light and shadow.

What began in 2023 will reach its culmination this year: In a three-year cycle, which can only be experienced here, we have embarked on a musical journey through Beethoven's violin sonatas together with the two audience favorites, Bomsori Kim on violin and Fabian Müller on piano. Over the past two years, Bomsori Kim and Fabian Müller have thrilled audiences with their passionate interpretations and virtuoso skills, thus bringing the famous composer's legacy to the Rheingau region. Now we are approaching the brilliant climax of this special cycle with three more of his impressive sonatas and cordially invite you to experience this timelessly fine music in the beautiful Fürst von Metternich Hall of Schloss Johannisberg.

Surrounded by the ancient walls of the historic Eberbach Monastery, this evening will feature a selection of the most romantic piano works in music history. From Beethoven's melancholic "Moonlight Sonata" to the delicate sounds of Clara Schumann's First Romance and Brahms' lyrical Intermezzi – this program will make the heart of every piano lover beat faster. Few are better suited to deliver this soulful performance than pianist, conductor, and composer Fabian Müller, who has been a part of the festival family for several years. With intimacy and pianistic brilliance, the ARD Competition winner presents this program as part of a romantic piano night in the atmospheric setting of the Eberbach cloister.

As Bonn-born pianist Fabian Müller, who has won numerous important awards, once admitted, Beethoven has always been a musical compass for him. It is no wonder that Beethoven also plays an important role in the chamber music evening, for which Müller joins forces with violinist Bomsori and cellist Julia Hagen to form an all-star trio.
