When Gustav Mahler debuted his Second Symphony, it was immediately clear that the popularity of the symphony nicknamed “Resurrection” would last well beyond his lifetime. In fact, Classical Music Magazine dubbed Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 one of the greatest symphonies of all time. The Phoenix Symphony concludes its season with the musical journey that begins at the funeral bier of a beloved friend and ends with redemption and resurrection in a mighty choral finale. Katherine Whyte, a compellingly dramatic soprano, and Megan Esther Grey, a potently precise contralto, join The Phoenix Symphony Chorus in a work that is both profound and extraordinary.

Then, we turn to the modern marvel of Jessie Montgomery’s Starburst, a work that encapsulates the vibrancy of our time, infusing classical tradition with contemporary energy. And finally, be prepared to be swept away by Gershwin’s iconic An American in Paris, a captivating blend of jazz and orchestral brilliance that paints a vivid, intoxicating picture of the city of light. This concert program is a thrilling kaleidoscope of musical styles, each piece revealing its unique magic, ensuring an unforgettable night of musical discovery and wonder.

This “sequel” to The Barber of Seville finds the boisterous barber, Figaro, ready to be married to his sweetheart, Susanna, as a scheming Count tries to break up the whole situation! Hilarious antics ensue—expect disguises, mistaken identities, and a lot of hiding in (and under) things—as this comedy plays out with music by one of the greatest composers of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Symphoria performs with Syracuse University choirs: Oratorio Society, Crouse Chorale, Hendricks Chapel Choir, Setnor Sonority, and the Syracuse University Singers.

Music for Food is a musician-led initiative to fight hunger in our local communities.  According to Feeding America, 1 in 9 people in the United States struggles with food insecurity. Music for Food’s concerts have raised funds to create close to 2 million meals.
Our mission: We believe both music and food are essential to human life and growth.  Music has the power to call forth the best in us, inspiring awareness and action when artists and audiences work together to transform ineffable musical experiences into tangible and needed food resources.
Now in its 13 season, Music for Food presents a four-concert series in NEC's Brown Hall, "Notes from Across the Sea."

Celebrate the holiday season with Ludwig van Beethoven's hymn to humanity, featuring the Eugene Symphony Chorus and a work by First Symphony Composer Gabriella Smith.

There is no experience that compares to hearing a live performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s hymn to humanity, starting with the sounds of order emerging from chaos on through to the spine-tingling “Ode to Joy” that will bring you out of your seat in exultation at the end. We also hear First Symphony Project composer Gabriella Smith’s collage of sounds inspired by the natural world, an a capella work sung by the Eugene Symphony Chorus, and another stunning but rarely heard work for chorus and orchestra by Beethoven, Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage.

The Guild Pre-Concert Talk will be held in the Silva Concert Hall from 6:30-7:00. Just a reminder, please sit in your ticketed seat during the pre-concert talk.
