Esa-Pekka Salonen returns to conduct Beethoven’s stirring Symphony No. 7 and the US Premiere of his Kínema for solo clarinet and orchestra, played by Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill. In Berio’s reworking of a piece by 18th-century composer Luigi Boccherini, a theme inspired by the nocturnal streets of Madrid is developed over a steady drum ostinato.
