Théâtre KOKOLAMPOE

In this autobiographical monologue, Matilda tells us how she won her freedom by defying the norms that, because of her identity as a Black, Haitian, intellectual, and gay woman, tried to reduce her to a stereotype.

Extravagante

To flee their homeland, devastated by drought, famine and war, two boys make their way to the coast. They hope to set out to sea aboard a smuggler's boat and head north. Between fragile beauty and stories of migration, the bodies tell of exile, hope and encounter. Inspired by choreographer Muriel Merlin's childhood in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni in French Guiana, Écume invites us on a poetic and socially engaged crossing. Based on the children's picture book by Sandrine Kao.

Écume

The An Tan Neg Marron project has its roots in the 1970s in French Guiana. A collective of musicians came together and would give birth to the renowned band Nèg Marron, with Elie Stephenson at its forefront, his pen already remarkably sharp. In their own way, they tell the epic of the Nèg Marrons, those great figures who embody the history of French Guiana through characters such as Copena and Boni. Wanting to carry these struggles of the past into the present fight for a strong Guianese identity, these men created an innovative, new, modern, and beautiful music. Fifty years later, Elie Stephenson wishes to pass this torch on to the artist Yann Cléry.

Jocelyn Sioui draws on the big and small threads of the story of his great-uncle and Indigenous hero Jules Sioui, as well as the little-known history of Indigenous peoples in the 20th century. Surrounded by screens and models that come alive with historical figures and images, he takes us deep into an archive box, from which we emerge changed. Funny, touching, energetic, Mononk Jules is a captivating story delivered with authenticity by a contagious performer.

Mononk Jules

A hopeful poetry. How can we find brotherhood in a country where one people's heroes are another people's tormentors? A word that aims to be "a song, a celebration," to escape victimhood and loudly claim a right to exist, in the past, in the present and in the future.

What Must Be Said

Enslaved, Marguerite Duplessis becomes the first Indigenous woman to sue the Quebec government to have her nationality recognized and to claim her freedom. This production is a song of love, grief and tears, a powerful oratorio.

The Cinema of Stéphane Floricien

The Touloulou carries within it one of the driving forces of carnival: the reversal of roles. Masked and spectacular, the woman who embodies it becomes, through her dance, her costume, her boldness and her power to choose, one of the queens of the festivities. It is a freedom that also demands courage: stepping into the game, taking risks, and sometimes provoking unrest.

Incognito

In this autobiographical monologue, Matilda tells us how she won her freedom by defying the norms that, because of her identity as a Black, Haitian, intellectual, and gay woman, tried to reduce her to a stereotype.
