TENET retells the story of Ariadne in a lively and dramatic pastiche of 17th-century Italian music. With an intimate cast of six, each singer embodies the main characters of Ariadne, Theseus, and the inhabitants of the island of Naxos. The tale is told through duets, arias, madrigals, and opera scenes by Francesca Caccini, Sigismondo D’India, Barbara Strozzi, and Claudio Monteverdi. Curated by Elisa Sutherland.

The power of women in mythology has been felt since the dawn of time. Explore the stories of timeless icons from Greek, Jewish, and Hindu traditions in this concert on April 20, at 8pm, in St. Paul's Chapel. Featuring a world premiere work by Reena Esmail, poetry and musical arrangement by Larry Rosenwald and Shira Kammen, and projections by Camilla Tassi. St. Paul's Chapel

Pergolesi’s seminal Stabat Mater has become a treasured staple among Italian works for the lenten season. TENET offers an intimate, one to a part performance for singers, string quartet and continuo. TENET explores florid sonatas by Isabella Leonarda, who lived and composed one generation before Pergolesi from the convent, and whose works show the depth and versatility of her creative genius.

On December 7, at 7pm, Trinity and TENET Vocal Artists present Unconventional Wisdom in St. Paul's Chapel. This concert celebrates music from 17th century Italian nuns and features women from Downtown Voices with Elena Williamson, conductor, and Jolle Greenleaf, artistic director. Ticketed.

Unconventional Wisdom

Join us for our all-female program for treble voices in collaboration with Trinity Wall Street and the treble vocalists of Downtown Voices as we perform music from 17th-century Italian convents. These extraordinary nuns produced a wealth of musical fruit; the program will feature famed composers Chiara Maria Cozzolani, Sulpitia Cesis, Vitoria Aleotti, Catarina Assandra, and more.

TENET explores the music of Henry Purcell and John Blow. In addition to honoring St. Cecilia, we will focus on music that celebrates the brief but effective reign of Queen Mary II, as well as depictions of hosts of angels in a program of vocal solos, duets, and chamber works with strings and continuo.

The Church of St. Luke in the Fields

TENET closes its 2022–23 season with a performance of music from 16th century England. This program magnifies TENET’s vocal artistry and celebrates composers close to our hearts including William Byrd, John Sheppard, Thomas Tallis, and Robert Whyte.
