What does the planet Arktos, where it's always icy, sound like? What songs do the Gummi Bears sing on the star Boriha? How do you defend against space debris? And can machines make music too?

What exactly does a director do? At the "Mittendrin" workshop on March 6th and 7th, Olivia Müller-Elmau, director of the production SCHAMPARADIES and assistant director at the theater, will offer insights into the profession of directing. Using the production SCHAMPARADIES as a case study, you'll gain an overview of the various phases of directing at the city and state theater: developing a directorial concept, collaborating with set design, costumes, and music, and rehearsing with actors. And because practice is better than theory, the workshop will also put you in the role of a director: How can you develop an idea based on a short scene? Which theatrical techniques help in realizing your idea? And how can you guide actors to bring their vision to life on stage?

Right in the thick of it, not just a bystander

The State Theatre is a veritable labyrinth. A scavenger hunt along paths normally off-limits to the public requires solving numerous musical riddles and finding the musicians of the State Orchestra. At well-hidden stations, they will introduce their instruments. The adventure concludes with a short concert for everyone!

When he received an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement in Hollywood in 1972, the audience applauded for a full twelve minutes. We are honoring Charlie Chaplin this season with three different film concerts.

As the composer and producer of this project, my goal is to present a unique musical personality with which fans of my productions can identify. I want to create a sonic reflection of who I am and where my musical journeys have taken me. I present reflections of my past creative phases through a selection from my musical portfolio, which I have built up over 50 years of my career. In the coming months, the quintet will showcase new ideas and approaches from each band member, contributing to the quintet's overall sound. We are convinced that humans need music like they need air to breathe. In the 7th symphony concert, Moritz Gnann returns to the podium of the State Orchestra after his successful Kassel opera debut last season. This time he dedicates himself to works that explore the forces of nature – from storms and thunderstorms to the atmospheric lightness of the air.
