A monumental subject like the Alps can only be expressed through equally mighty orchestral forces, and a staggering 125 musicians will fill Jones Hall. It’s hard to imagine any music more stunningly beautiful than Strauss’s Four Last Songs, especially when performed by one of the world’s most in-demand operatic sopranos, Rachel Willis-Sørensen.

Soprano Jennifer Holloway brings her celebrated interpretation of the title role—one of opera’s most challenging vocal feats—to Jones Hall for these performances.

Strauss Festival: Salome in Concert

Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell presents The Elements, a suite of five works for violin and orchestra, commissioned by Bell and written by leading American composers Jake Heggie (Fire), Jennifer Higdon (Air), Edgar Meyer (Water), CSO Mead Composer-in-Residence Jessie Montgomery (Ether) and Kevin Puts (Earth). Conductor Juraj Valčuha frames the program with Weber’s Oberon Overture and Shostakovich’s jaunty, mischievous First Symphony.
