Revered for his passion and longevity in music-making, Herbert Blomstedt, in his late nineties, will lead the orchestra through Mahler’s last completed work, Symphony No. 9. This piece, known for its emotional depth and complexity, offers an experience of doubt, defiance, grief, hope, and climaxes of devastating power, culminating in a hushed ending that captivates the audience. 

Before the grandeur of Mahler, the concert will open with Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4, featuring Leonidas Kavakos, whose previous performance was described as "pitch perfect" and "life-enhancing" by Seen and Heard International. The clarity and refinement of this concerto serve as the perfect introduction to the evening's program.

Ticket prices range from £20 to £85, with priority booking available for Friends of the Philharmonia. General booking opens at 10am on Tuesday, 23rd April. This event also offers a multibuy discount, with special rates for under-18s and concessions. The concert duration is approximately 2 hours, including an interval, and is recommended for ages 7 and above.
