Ming Luke guest conducts Festival Orchestra Napa featuring virtuosio pianist Ronny Michael Greenberg in a fun and informative concert of favorites by Gershwin, Copland, Montgomery, and more, celebrating the centennial of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and showcasing the full range of instruments in an orchestra. Young audience members will be introduced to the various elements of music including dynamics, tempo, texture, and form and will experience a pre-concert Instrument "Petting Zoo" presented in collaboration with the Napa Valley College Music Department and Napa Valley Education Foundation's Music Connection program.

Cookies & Carols Concert

Sol One is a site-specific composition by Yang Bao that imagines humans as an interplanetary species exploring the profound connections we share with nature, our planet, and our own existence. The live performance merges piano and orchestra with an immersive sound installation, transforming Opus One Winery into a monumental soundscape. Driven by Bao's concept of "Infinity Music," the composition mutates and refracts infinitely according to the progression of time and chance, inviting the audience to experience this work both linearly and spatially. Ming Luke leads Festival Orchestra Napa.

How I See Music is a program of music-driven listening and painting workshops for Napa County K–12 students and seniors.

In 2022, Antonin Dvořák’s New World Symphony was the vehicle for teaching deep listening skills combined with abstraction in visual art. More than 550 Napa Valley residents aged 5 to 95 participated in workshops at schools and senior activity centers, creating colorful and imaginative artwork depicting what they “see” in music. A selection of these original works are were displayed on a giant screen during the the Opening Night performance of Festival Napa Valley 2022 – and are on display in this 2023 video installation.

The prodigious siblings of the Breshears String Quartet have played music together since they were toddlers. Now, ranging from age 10 to 16, Dustin (violin), Starla (cello), Valery (violin), and Colin (viola) have performed as soloists and in ensembles from Argentina to Mexico to the UK (as well as on NBC’s Little Big Shots) and garnered gold medals at chamber music and solo competitions. Born and raised in the Bay Area, they attend both the San Domenico Virtuoso Program and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The Quartet perform a special concert for the Festival’s Bouchaine Young Artist series.

Twin siblings Harper and Cole Randolph picked up instruments during kindergarten, and their paths diverged only slightly: cellist Cole studied math, music performance, and economics at the University of Wisconsin before joining the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, while violist Harper earned her music degree from the University of Michigan and was awarded third place at the 25th Annual Sphinx Competition, Senior Division. The Randolph twins take the stage for an inspiring concert as part of Festival Napa Valley’s Novack Concert for Kids program.

Twins often have uncanny similarities — Harper and Cole Randolph, for example, share exceptional musical talent. Sisters Fiona and Hina Khuong-Huu are a dazzling duo who, at just 16 and 18 years old, have performed around the world and brought home countless prestigious awards, from Hina’s 2023 Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition win to Fiona’s first prize at the 2017 Grumiaux Competition. While the New York City natives continue their studies at Juilliard (and Hina pursues a double degree at Columbia University), they perform together and as sought-after soloists, including at this year’s Bouchaine Young Artist concert.

Frost School at Festival Napa Valley is a multiyear partnership with the University of Miami, featuring Frost School of Music faculty and students playing a lead role in the Festival’s university-level educational, chamber music, and orchestral music programming.

The 2023 GRAMMY® Award-winning trio Time for Three transcends traditional classification, with elements of classical, country western, gypsy, and jazz idioms forming a blend all its own. The musicians who make up this genre-defying group are extraordinary artists in their own right; together, they give stunningly original performances. Time for Three makes its Festival Napa Valley debut performing original compositions as well as ingenious mash-ups of hits ranging from the Beatles to Britney Spears, Guns N’ Roses, and beyond.
