Join Maestro Stephen Alltop and the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra for an engaging and interactive program that will allow students to become composers, making decisions about instrumental sounds and colors. Students will enjoy favorite movements from Georges Bizet’s Carmen, Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite and the Sicilienne by Gabriel Fauré.

The 2026 CUSO Youth Concerts are produced in partnership with Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, with funding from the CUSO Youth Music Appreciation Endowment Fund, the Meredith Foundation, Guild of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, the Robeson Family Benefit Fund, and the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

The Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra offers a wide-ranging program of American music to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States. Joan Tower’s bold Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman and Leonard Bernstein’s unforgettable Symphonic Dances from West Side Story will contrast deeply contemplative music by Samuel Barber and Jonathan Bailey Holland. John Williams’ cool jazz score for the film Catch Me if You Can is reimagined as a spell-binding concerto for alto saxophone, expertly played by Champaign’s own Taimur Sullivan. The lively Fandangos of Roberto Sierra will bring the evening to an uproarious close.

Passion, versatility, and uncompromising artistic standards are the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's hallmarks. The orchestra returns to Krannert Center with its music director Vasily Petrenko for a rousing program highlighting the uncompromising excellence of the United Kingdom's most in-demand orchestra. The program's light-hearted opening, Berlioz's Overture to the comedic opera Beatrice and Benedict, contrasts the gravitas of the closing work, Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10, considered one of the greatest of all 20th-century symphonies. Vasily Petrenko brings a deep affinity for and love of Shostakovich's music to the podium; his insightful recordings of the composer's complete symphonic output have been lauded for their depth, integrity, musicality, and interpretive intelligence. The RPO welcomes Benjamin Grosvenor, "a genius who has reached the height of his interpretive powers" (Spectator), as soloist in Beethoven's playful Piano Concerto No. 1.

As the Chicago Symphony Orchestra marks its 135th anniversary, Music Director Emeritus for Life Riccardo Muti returns to the Foellinger Great Hall with an all-time orchestral favorite, Dvořák's New World Symphony. Its glorious melodies capture the folk songs and spirituals the composer heard in America, dosed with a heartfelt longing for his Czech homeland. Also on the program is Hindemith's majestic 1939 Mathis der Maler Symphony portraying an eminent Renaissance artist's struggles against political repression. Maestro Muti and the CSO offer us a rousing opening to this program with the Overture to The Gypsy Baron by Johann Strauss, Jr., beloved for its abundance of memorable tunes.

Hosted by the University of Illinois Bands, the SuperState Concert Band Festival celebrates the legacy and tradition of great music making by middle school/junior high and high school bands in the state of Illinois. Taking place in two rounds, the 50th annual event begins with recorded applications that are evaluated by panels of renowned conductor/educators. In 2023, approximately 80 ensembles submitted applications and 28 bands were invited to perform at SuperState in May.
