Westminster Symphony Sundays: Horn Duo

Join us for a unique musical journey at the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra's latest fundraiser, "Artistry in Sound: A Musical Experience of Paul Jenkins' Phenomena Near Baber Woods," on Sunday, April 14, 2024. This exceptional event, taking place from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the Swope Art Museum, 25 North 6th Street, Terre Haute, IN, promises an afternoon of exquisite music and art.

The highlight of the event is a recital by the Angelus Duo, featuring sisters Melissa and Melanie Mashner, who will perform a program inspired by Paul Jenkins' captivating painting, "Phenomena Near Baber Woods." The performance will include the world premiere of "yet so close," a piece composed by Terre Haute's own Jack Nesser, an award-winning young composer known for his innovative works.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to view Jenkins' artwork at the museum while enjoying the Angelus Duo's performance, creating a harmonious blend of visual and auditory art. The event will also feature a selection of hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar catered by The Saratoga, adding to the elegant atmosphere.

Tickets are priced at $65 per person, with $50 of each ticket being a tax-deductible donation to support the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra's community engagement programs. The performance will take place on the Third Floor of the Swope Art Museum, with general admission seating. An elevator is available for accessibility. The recital will start at 2:30 PM and conclude at 3:30 PM, followed by an opportunity to meet the musicians and composer until 4:00 PM.

Artistry in Sound: A Musical Experience of Paul Jenkins' Phenomena Near Baber Woods

Celebrating Terre Haute’s total solar eclipse in April 2024, the THSO joins the community’s A Total Eclipse of the Haute collaborative event. The symphony will perform a wide variety of musical styles including selections from The Planets by Gustav Holst, John Williams favorites like E.T. and Star Wars, music from Apollo 13 by James Horner, the X-Files theme, and much more heavenly music. Audiences will enjoy their favorite space-inspired music complete with fully integrated video projections created by José Francisco Salgado for an out-of-this-world experience!

Join us for an enchanting afternoon of chamber music at the "String Spring Fling," presented by the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra (THSO). This special event will take place on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Hatfield Hall, located within the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 5500 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, IN, 47803.

Under the artistic direction of Dr. David Bowden, the THSO Strings and Principal Harp, Melanie Mashner, will deliver a performance filled with lush string sounds and the warm beauty of harp vibrations. The concert will feature the return of Elina Rubio, our recent concertmaster, who will dazzle the audience with a solo performance of Ravel’s Tzigane Gypsy Dance. Additionally, Elina will join forces with our current concertmaster, Erina Buchholz, for a memorable rendition of the second movement of Bach’s Double Concerto.

The program also includes a variety of pieces that promise to captivate and delight, from waltzes and a Strauss polka played pizzicato to a mesmerizing new work by Caroline Shaw, Entr’acte for Strings, and the stunning Fratres by Arvo Pärt. The concert will conclude with a selection of pieces including a jig by Grainger, a Hoe-Down by Copland, and a beautiful harp concert aria featuring Melanie Mashner.

This 75 to 80-minute performance will be held without intermission, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves in the music. Following the concert, a VIP reception will offer the chance to meet and mingle with the musicians.
