From the dramatic opening trumpet solo of Mahler's Fifth Symphony to the serene and heartfelt adagietto, audiences will be taken on an emotional rollercoaster, showcasing the full power and range of the orchestra. More than a century earlier, Haydn's Symphony No. 100, known as the "Military," introduced elements of drama and intensity with its evocative sounds of the battlefield, setting the stage for Mahler's expansive work.

Jader Bignamini, who was introduced as the 18th music director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in January 2020, brings his infectious passion and artistic excellence to the podium. A native of Crema, Italy, Bignamini's deep connection with the orchestra and his commitment to exploring the complexities of American music and Detroit’s rich jazz culture have already marked a new and exciting chapter for the DSO.

For thousands of years the word EXODUS has been used to describe a massive human migration; embarking upon an epic journey and change filled with such power that the earth itself shakes upon its commencement. All such grand exploits begin with a soft awareness for what truly lies beyond, yet 4 decades ago EXODUS had no way of knowing the extent to which their band would rise, conquer, trip up, and rise again. The formation of the beast we now call EXODUS began in Richmond California 1979, and although many started their journey as fans a few years down the line, there is no debating that the early 80’s was a time for major growth in the world of Thrash Metal, especially in the Bay Area of California.
