Lara Downes, serving as both the curator and a soloist, guides the audience through a journey that explores the highways and byways of American musical traditions. This journey uncovers the roots of the folk tunes Aaron Copland used to depict the Wild West, connects with the rural upbringing of American maverick Roy Harris in the San Gabriel Valley, and traces the Great Migration through the music of William Grant Still, from his beginnings in Jim Crow Mississippi to his final days in the bohemian, granola glam of 1970s Los Angeles.

This event promises to be a profound exploration of the crossroads where musical traditions merge and transform, offering surprising roadside discoveries and detours. Some of the world's greatest chamber music has been composed for the ensemble called "Piano Trio." We are thrilled to welcome back our A-Team Piano Trio: violinist Marcin Arendt, cellist Alexander Hersh, and pianist Victor Asunción. Their concert features two masterpieces of the genre: Maurice Ravel's shimmering Piano Trio in A minor and the powerful Piano Trio in E minor by Dmitri Shostakovich.
