Before Abbott Elementary, there was Patrice Patterson at Dartmouth Day School. Shortly before Christmas break, a third grader named Sharifa stands in front of her class and says, “Santa Claus is a Black man from Detroit," sending the school into an uproar. To quell the storm, Patrice, the school's only Black teacher, is asked to create an ad campaign within the school to make Santa white again. As events unfold, Sharifa’s enrollment is placed in jeopardy, and Patrice must decide how to protect Sharifa and ultimately herself. This absurdist comedy examines how race and racial bias can have a foothold on one of the most benign figures — Santa Claus.

He continues his beloved annual winter holiday tour tradition with a stop at the Kaseya Center this December. Peter London Global Dance Company presents AFTER LANDING, its 13th annual season in partnership with the Arsht Center. This spectacular and unparalleled contemporary dance program features world premiere collaborations by award-winning choreographer Justin Rapaport and award-winning composer Martin Bejerano; choreographer Peter London and composer Kebra-Seyoun Charles; choreographer Kashia Kancey and composer Cristina Moya-Palacios; and London and composer Jean Coze. New company productions include Jamar Roberts’ AS AN OFFERING, with a commissioned score by Etienne Charles, and London's CARMEN, CARIBBEAN SUITE and INNER RITUAL. Guest stars include Leon Cobb and Andrea Murillo, former soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company.

Salute to Vienna New Year’s Concert is a joyful, lively experience that has delighted audiences in Miami for more than 15 years. Every holiday season, this beloved tradition bursts to life at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts with music, bright costumes and lush flowers. Set in Chicago when Prohibition has everyone thirsty for a little excitement, SOME LIKE IT HOT is the “glorious, big, high-kicking” (Associated Press) story of two musicians forced to flee the Windy City after witnessing a mob hit. With gangsters hot on their heels, they catch a cross-country train for the life-chasing, life-changing trip of a lifetime.

Based on actual events, The Great Yes, The Great No takes place aboard an ocean liner bound for Martinique from Vichy France and carrying a who’s who of mid-20th century thinkers. South African artist William Kentridge adds a layer of fiction to his retelling of this wartime voyage. To create a meaningful group portrait, Kentridge has augmented the ship’s manifest of real passengers (French anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss, Cuban artist Wifredo Lam, et al.) with several other famous figures (among them Martinican philosopher Frantz Fanon and French entertainer Josephine Baker). The ship’s captain is none other than Charon, mythical ferryman of the River Styx.

Miami’s Nu Deco Ensemble returns for a season of captivating music! Called a "chamber orchestra for the 21st century" by The New York Times, Nu Deco has collaborated onstage with artists such as Wyclef Jean, Allen Stone, Macy Gray, Monsieur Periné, Jacob Collier and Ben Folds; performed reimagined orchestral suites of the music of Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, The Beatles and Aretha Franklin; and presented new music by some of today's most exciting composers.
