Under the musical direction of Maestro Kevin Rhodes, one of the world’s most prestigious and sought-after ballet conductors, TSO musicians will perform side-by-side with the outstanding musicians of the Interlochen Arts Academy, showcasing the ballet students of IAA. Two renowned institutions come together in this complete production of one of the greatest ballets by the most influential ballet composer of all time.

Experience off-the-charts virtuosity in playing AND musical composition with this performance by Ms. Qu in concert with some of the Symphony’s principal players. Tina Qu has soloed with orchestras the world over to great acclaim, and she makes her TSO debut with some of the greatest music ever written featuring solo violin. Bach put his entire genius into these works (originally written as part of a job application) which have been some of the most performed works of the past 300 years.

Handel’s Messiah, originally written in English–rare for a choral work–represents a commentary on Jesus Christ’s Nativity, Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension. Experience the grandeur and majesty of this timeless masterpiece in a performance that will leave you spellbound. Handel’s Messiah is a monumental oratorio that has captivated audiences for centuries, with its stirring melodies, intricate harmonies, and profound messages. Maestro Holleman, Director of Orchestras and Choirs at Hillsdale College, has garnered national attention for his work with his students and has put the college firmly on the arts map. Former classmate and longtime friend of Maestro Rhodes, we warmly welcome him for his TSO debut!

Thornton Wilder’s acclaimed drama Our Town gets a contemporary update in Kaela Mei-Shing Garvin’s play Corner’s Grove. Set more than 100 years after the original play, Corners Grove recasts the traditional characters as a diverse group of high school students on the cusp of adulthood. As the events of the play unfold, the young adults navigate coming-of-age challenges such as leaving home, falling in love, and exploring their gender identities. Don’t miss a hilarious yet heartfelt reflection on the joys and uncertainties of growing up.

Marjorie Drackett Piano Chair Dr. Kara Huber will be taking us through the life and compositions of American composer and Grammy-Award winner, Joan Tower. Her virtuosic and colorful pieces with the influence of Chopin’s romance, Stravinsky’s rhythm and Debussy’s etherealism will tell the story of her career and how Tower found her own voice in composing for the modern listener.
