Heyward Conducts Mozart and Lutoslawski

Approaching Mozart’s music with a presence that is “elegantly unruffled” (The New York Times), Conrad Tao illuminates the subtleties of his forebear’s dramatic Piano Concerto No. 20. For the young Polish composer Lutosławski, threads of local folk music and lessons from centuries past converge to make his Concerto for Orchestra an ear-tickling marvel of mid-century modernism. An interlude from Benjamin Britten’s breakthrough opera provides another angle of emotional mastery from a musician wise beyond his years.

Experience the awe-inspiring stage production of **Hamid Rahmanian’s Song of the North**, adapted from the Shahnameh Book of Kings, an Iranian epic poem published in 1010 by Persian poet Ferdowsi. This captivating performance features nine performers and nearly 500 puppets, bringing to life centuries-old text with the vibrant energy of contemporary theater.

**Storyline:**  
The timeless tale follows a knight who falls in love with an enemy princess. When the knight is captured and imprisoned, it’s up to the young heroine to save her star-crossed lover in a story filled with magic, adventure, and compassion. The production invokes the Persian tradition of puppetry while highlighting the resilience and strength of an Iranian heroine.
