Musical maestro Jools Holland and his famous Rhythm & Blues Orchestra will be touring this Autumn/Winter, with special guests Marc Almond and Toby Lee.

The Hallé’s multi-faceted Artist-in Residence, Thomas Adès conducts this atmospheric programme centred on Finland’s greatest composer, which features two of his greatest symphonies as well as a pair of pieces influenced by him. Einojuhani Rautavaara was a protégé of Sibelius and his Deux Serenades, is a gleaming example of his seductively Romantic style. Here it’s performed by the remarkable American violinist Stephen Waarts, who made a huge impression here a couple of seasons ago when stepping in to perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto at short notice. He also performs Adès’ homage to Sibelius, a compact, free-form concerto, in which the stratospheric solo violin soars over a restless orchestra in a serene reverie.

Over the last 18 years his legendary live shows have seen him perform at festivals alongside artists as diverse as Herbie Hancock, Kendrick Lamar, St Vincent and Lang Lang. In addition to his enduringly successful recording career, with nine albums under his belt, he has also established himself as a multi-award-winning music broadcaster. Jamie approaches all aspects of his career, as he has from the beginning, as both a fan and a student with seemingly boundless creativity and enthusiasm.

Grammy-award nominated heavy rock outfit Baroness mark their much-anticipated return with new album, STONE. Their sixth record overall and third released via Abraxan Hymns, STONE finds the Philadelphia-based quartet of John Baizley (guitars/vocals/illustration), Gina Gleason (guitars), Nick Jost (bass), and Sebastian Thomson (drums) streamlining the momentous multi-genre vocabulary of its critically-acclaimed predecessor Gold & Grey (2019). This is still very much Baroness—just refocused for efficiency and rethought as a consequence of stability. STONE’s most prominent tracks, “Last Word,” “Beneath the Rose,” “Shine,” and “Anodyne,” reflect thoughtfully, groove deeply, and refract tumult effortlessly. They, of course, rock.

At this point, Myles Kennedy’s voice precedes him. Certainly, it courses through six chart-topping albums from gold-selling rock juggernaut Alter Bridge, three records with Slash and The Conspirators, two albums from The Mayfield Four, his 2018 solo debut Year of the Tiger, and guest appearances for everyone from Disturbed and Halestorm to Gov’t Mule, Sevendust, Mark Morton and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels. For as much as he remains renowned for his skyscraping timbre and earth-quaking bluesy wail, his musicianship also encompasses eloquent songcraft, thoughtful cinematic arrangements, and, of course, dynamic guitar fireworks as explosive as his astounding vocal range. That brings us to his second full-length solo album, The Ides Of March [Napalm Records]. These eleven tracks follow all of his muses into a pastiche of distorted rock ‘n’ roll frenzy, Memphis Delta-soaked blues catharsis, soul ponderances, and even dalliances into country.

“How the fuck are we going to turn this into a song?” That’s the question Lou Barlow and John Davis have asked themselves since co-founding the Folk Implosion in the early 1990s.Beginning with improvised jams featuring Barlow on bass and Davis on drums, the duo develop their beat-driven pop collages from the ground up. It’s the process they used on their debut cassette,Walk Through This World with the Folk Implosion, and one they’ve returned to 30 years later on their spellbinding, self-referencing reunion,Walk Thru Me.
