Set in an imaginary land in medieval times, the symbolist play Pelléas et Mélisande is a tragic love story. Pelléas loves Mélisande, but she’s married to his brother. What unfolds inspired a range of composers, including Debussy and Fauré, with Fauré’s first response coming in 1898. It was the incidental music for a London production of the play, written at breakneck speed and orchestrated by his pupil Charles Koechlin for orchestration. However, Fauré later extracted 3 movements from that, reorchestrating them himself to make up the concert suite in today’s programme, while still retaining the Sicilienne in it’s original form. It’s elegant, colourful and highly atmospheric music.

In October 2004, amongst a thriving Dublin music scene Declan O’Rourke’s debut album Since Kyabram was released. In its first week, Since Kyabram entered the charts at Number 5 and over the following two years achieved gold, platinum and twice platinum status. The Album held within it a collection of songs which have grown in popularity over the years. Galileo, Sarah, No Place To Hide, We Didn’t Mean To Go To Sea and Marrying The Sea are amongst the titles which led to award nominations and plaudits from Paul Weller, Eddi Reader, Paul Brady and Snow Patrol.

Nathan Carter has confirmed he will make a welcome return to the Waterfront Hall later this year to play two shows and will be joined by special guests CEOL.

Nathan has recorded six number one albums in Ireland and has had a top 20 UK album release with the CD 'Beautiful Life'. Nathan’s latest album 'The Morning After' released in November 2022 went straight to Number One in the Irish Album Charts. The top selling album includes the self-penned original single 'The Morning After' As well as being a leading performer and vocalist, Nathan has been busy honing his craft as a songwriter and this is just one of the many hit songs he has penned.

Speaking about the newly added Dublin show Dawkins says "I shall be spending most of October and November, in Europe and UK, speaking in ten different cities from Oxford to Belfast. I am 83 years old, and travel is more irksome than it was. The maxim, “Quit while you’re ahead” has recently received a welcome boost, and I anticipate that this will be my last EU/UK tour. My swansong. My final bow. There’ll be a Q & A at every event. And I’ll be signing any or all of my 19 books, including The Genetic Book of the Dead, which will be just published. This will probably be your last opportunity to tell me how profoundly you disagree with everything I’ve written and said. Or the reverse if that is the case. Either way, I look forward to seeing you."
