First up is our esteemed leader, Carla Moore, in a concert that delves into Georg Philipp Telemann’s vast musical cupboard. We explore a kaleidoscope of textures and styles, from the musings of solo lute to a declamatory overture for the full cohort of strings. Further contrast abounds with French and Italian works by two of Telemann’s likely influencers, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier and Francesco Durante.

Arts and culture are at a pivotal point in Oregon’s history.  Arts and cultural organizations have been continuing to suffer from the lingering impact of the pandemic. The state legislature made little effort to support the arts and culture in the past session, but is about to take up major arts legislation again in February. Portland has pulled out of the Regional Arts and Culture Council, shaking up the structure for providing support to arts and culture in the metropolitan area. A major arts and cultural plan for the region is about to be released. City leaders are talking about how the arts can be used to help revitalize downtown Portland.

Bass trombonist of the Vancouver Symphony (B.C.) Ilan Morgenstern holds an artist-in-residence at Portland State University School of Music and Theater. Hailed by the International Trombone Association Journal for his “rhythmically driving, technically flawless, and unfailingly dynamic and exciting" playing, Ilan Morgenstern is a unique voice in his field. Ilan will present a masterclass and recital on March 7th, 2024, in Lincoln Recital Hall 75.
