San Francisco Playhouse will present the West Coast Premiere of Candrice Jones’ “Flex”, directed by Bay Area theatre titan and Lorraine Hansberry Theatre artistic director Margo Hall. This action-packed new play set in 1998 spotlights the Lady Train high school basketball team in Plainnole, Arkansas. Following the recent formation of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the players dream of going pro. First, they must face the pressures of being young, Black, and female in the rural South as setbacks on and off the court threaten to break the team apart.

The Strand Theater

Following the sold out premiere of Richard II, the Magic Theatre partners with Play On Shakespeare for a new version of Macbeth by legendary writer Migdalia Cruz, directed by Liam Vincent. Set in a gritty 1970’s New York City, Catherine Castellanos (Macbeth) and Sarah Nina Hayon (Lady Macbeth) lead an all-star cast in a performance delivering a fast, bloody, gritty, and fun story of murderous ambition.

An iconic artist who helped re-introduce electric blues into the pop music mainstream, guitarist, singer, songwriter, and five-time GRAMMY winner Keb’ Mo’ gained worldwide fame by embracing the country-blues style of Robert Johnson and combining it with modern blues, R&B, and soul.

Hailing from the East Bay town of Hercules, August Lee Stevens is a masterful young singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose work encompasses elements of soul, jazz, and modern folk. Possessed of a velvet-smooth voice and an innate gift for lyrical expression, Stevens is an artist whose profile is destined to rise. She makes her first appearance since her February 2025 performance as part of the Noise Pop festival.

A sparkling all-star ensemble assembled by Ravi Shankar’s wife and daughter honor the legacy of one of the greatest musicians of all time. The Ravi Shankar Ensemble is a multi-generational collective of world class musicians dedicated to the masterful compositions and enduring legacy of the uniquely legendary musician. They present a special program featuring visual elements from the Ravi Shankar archives alongside a dynamic selection of his soul-stirring music.

War Memorial and Performing Arts Center

This concert features the world premiere of Highsmith winner Pierre Fontaine’s Ancient Dances in Modern Times. The Highsmith Award, endowed by Jim Highsmith, is the Conservatory’s top composition prize. Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin features six movements, all based on traditional dance movements from the French Baroque suite: Prélude, Fugue, Forlane, Rigaudon, Menuet, and Toccata and is dedicated to the memory of his friends lost in the first World War. Jean Sibelius wrote The Oceanides for his one and only trip to the United States in 1914 meanwhile Sibelius’ Violin Concerto is noted for its rhapsodic nature and technical challenges, all of which are dear to violinists. This concert features SFCM Concert Competition Winner Jeehin Kim and student conductor Jason Gluck.
