Søndergård Conducts Mozart’s Requiem

You can needle-drop at any juncture of the Minneapolis native’s four-decade-plus career and find a moment of great significance. Stinson was a founding and lifetime member of the Replacements. Further, he was a key second-generation ingredient in Guns N’ Roses and served a seven-year tenure with Soul Asylum. He also led two essential bands of his own: the aptly named Bash & Pop and Perfect. Additionally, he appeared on recordings by the Old 97’s, MOTH and BT. Moreover, he played bass on the Rock Remix of Puff Daddy’s “It’s All About the Benjamins.”

Jazz icon Ernie Watts and blues harmonica ace Corky Siegel first met in Mumbai. The distinguished violin virtuoso, Dr. L. Subramaniam, invited them to perform in his Global Fusion project. Also, they have been best of friends from the moment they met. Further, they continue to collaborate in celebrated performances and on acclaimed recording projects. For example, Ernie is featured on both recent releases of Corky’s revolutionary Chamber Blues project. The evening will display musical fireworks from these two iconic masters, filled with remarkable stories and humor from two extraordinary lives. A miserly and miserable man, Ebenezer Scrooge greets each Christmas with “Bah! Humbug!” until he is visited one Christmas Eve by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future. In Charles Dickens’ beloved classic, the three spirits show Scrooge happy memories from his past, difficult realities from the present and a grim future should he continue his closed-hearted ways. Throughout his journey, Scrooge is forced to reckon with the man he has become and contemplate the man he could be — but only if his restless night leads to a change of heart by morning. When he released his album Routes to Django: Live in 1980, critics immediately praised the thirteen-year-old jazz guitarist as a protégé of Django Reinhardt. While he has broadened his approach, he is best known for his inspired renderings of the hot club style.

The Belfast Cowboys is a nine-piece, horn-driven band from Minneapolis that specializes in the music of Van Morrison. Entering their third decade, they are adept at mixing rock, blues, roots and soul sounds. Led by veteran songwriter/guitarist Terry Walsh, the Cowboys have flourished in the renowned Minnesota music scene. They have consistently packed houses and wowed crowds since 2002.

Minneapolis-based collective Happy Apple has delivered its own enigmatic vision of jazz and improvised music for over twenty-five years. They’ve found favor from the jazz community at large, revered by an adoring cognoscente of listeners. However, the trio of saxophonist Michael Lewis, bassist Erik Fratzke, and drummer Dave King remain a band of outsiders. Here, three independent personalities with eclectic tastes and styles provide music with an obtuse Midwestern charm.
